Talking chess variants

I would like some opinions on this chess variant: Birds and Ninjas

http://chess.computerwebservices.net/birds.php

It uses the flying bomber piece for the game Flying Bombers Grand Chess also found on that site:
http://chess.computerwebservices.net/flying.php

What do you guys think about that variant?
Or with chess variants in general?

On the gameplay of variants vs chess?

And can someone also please explain what forum is appropriate for this sort of topic- mainly because this chess politics crap from the USCF is spilling over to other forums.
I mean how the hell can the idiot posting chess politics not understand this:

A general discussion of all thing related to chess, where it is NOT relevant to post in another forum.

What the hell is the use of different topics for forums if you are going to post the same thing in all of them?

This whole site is becoming JUNK because of this Sam Sloan politics crap!

This is the correct place within rec.games.chess.*.

I mean how the hell can the idiot posting chess politics not
understand this:

Their goal is to look like dicks in front of as many people as
possible, not to conduct a reasonable discussion about anything. As
such, the points you raise, while perfectly correct, are irrelevant to
them.

You can get rid of most of the junk with killfiles.

I don't have a board that big currently. Have you implemented in
Zillions? Maybe I can download it to take a look. Tell you what, if
it is in Zillions, then I will check it out. I will also ask you to
check out my set of chess variants involving the use of a Champion
(Knight-Rook) and Templar (Knight-Bishop) pieces on an 8x8 board.
This family of games goes by the name of: IAGO Standard Fantasy
Chess . You can get the ZRF file and also read the discussion he

Myself, I am a BIG fan of chess variants and all abstracts (and shoot,
all table games). I am a type who would rather never play the same
game twice, than stick to a single game. I would be more akin to
Fischer's Random Chess than standard chess, and the Birds and Ninja
variant. Of course, this is me speaking.

My experience with a local chess club is all they wanted to do is play
speed chess. I found it a bit ironic they were complaining speed
chess wasn't accepted when they were fairly intolerant of any other
chess variant.

And can someone also please explain what forum is appropriate for this
sort of topic- mainly because this chess politics crap from the USCF is

The Sam Sloan at war bit is boring me to tears personally. As for
where to discuss chess variants, you have multiple choices:
1. Boardgame Geek. You will get a bit there. Not the strongest but
some.
2. The Yahoo abstract games forum.
3. rec.games.abstract usenet newsgroup.
4. The Chess variants website: http://www.chessvariants.org . This is
likely your strongest bet if you want to discuss chess variants.
5. The abstractgamers.org website forum. This is the discussion forum
for people interest in the International Abstract Games Organization
(IAGO), which is currently in prelaunch at this point. IAGO will look
to promote all abstracts and work to have champions in different
classes of abstract strategy games (like a chess variant world
champion), and specific games. It is meant to cover abstract strategy
games that don't have an association cover them. You can go here for
that: http://www.abstractgamers.org . Eventually it will have an IAGO-
(something).com URL, once there is an actually website is up.

If you haven't yet, please consider visiting the abstractgamers forum
and getting involved with IAGO is some manner. The organization is
meant to be a home for you, and looks to avoid a ton of political
nonsense.

I mean how the hell can the idiot posting chess politics not understand
this:

I found it interest that I posted ideas of changing the chess clock
and perhaps adding a doubling cube, as ways to address draw issues and
make it more watchable on TV, in rec.games.chess.misc, and someone
cross-posts it to the chess.politics newsgroup. I am believing there
is a bit of envy over poker's success for some reason.

This whole site is becoming JUNK because of this Sam Sloan politics
crap!

I agree here. I am seriously wondering what has to do to NOT tick off
Sam Sloan.

These pieces are better known as chancellor and archbishop, respec-
tively. There are other names but it probably doesn't help to make
even more.

Thanks for your interest! Unfortunately, I am fairly new to this and I don't have Zillions or make custom zillions files. There is a zillions file for one of my other variants: Palace Ninja Guards - it is found on the chess variants site as well as on the zillions site. It was made by someone else though and I am not sure if he would make one for my other game.

You can however play all my games at the chess variants site --
For example Birds and Ninjas can be played:
http://play.chessvariants.org/pbm/pl... s+and+Ninjas

Can yours be also played there? In that case I don't mind playing..

Interesting you call the knight-rook - the champion. Omega chess uses a different piece called the Champion!

I will check out the abstract gamers site..
