by by will look here when i get home from work..

SAT-W7 & Sanny,

I am guessing that the move-by-move messages of this game may not be
interesting to very many people. Would it be possible for you two to
take this to email? You could give a report to the newsgroup at the end.

Just a suggestion...

1800 seems ridiculous, a manufacturer's claim without any testing.

IVAN is as much 1800 as I am 2800.

You can't tell much from a single mistake.

If you recall, world champion Kramnik
recently overlooked a mate-in-one, under no
particular time pressure. Fluke? In a recent
issue of Chess Lies, two GMs were playing
a Caro-Kann and one tried an early "TN"; the
other instantly blundered, losing horribly. It's
not easy to calculate complex variations.

I downloaded a text file which purportedly
contained "all" the testing of one agency,
but there was nothing for "Ivan". I would like
to see more games before accepting or just
dismissing the claim of an 1800 rating
because people don't like Sanny... .

I don't dislike Sanny at all. He's a clueless blowhard, but those are
a dime a dozen around here. I simply reserve the right to tell him
what I think of his ridiculous claims.

As to "one mistake", you would think that a computer wiould be failry
immune to these sorts of outliers you describe. But point taken. But
given the speed of GETCLUB, any reasonable number of games to get a
significant result will take, what, an eon???

I never Check my Emails. I am spammed 100-200 mails daily by unkonown
people all asking to Chat with me. Some saying we are waiting for you.
and some selling their products. And arround 500 Mails daily are
rejected by the Spam Filter So Most of the mails do not reach me.

I just delete all the mails daily It would be very difficult to find
If the move is made as daily I have to read 1000s of mails.

And On this newsgrop If you are not interested just do not click this
thread. You can just omit this thread who is asking you to read all
messages.

Just like I just read those messages which I have interest in and do
not look at messages not bothering me.

Further many players can really analyze the game and tell who is
winning.

Bye
Sanny

A search on "Ivan chess computer" will turn up
dozens of hits indicating that "Ivan 2" is claimed
by the manufacturer to be 1850 strength. As far
as I know, the only information available is that
claim and a single, partial game posted here.

What makes you think that a computer rated
just 1800 (Ivan 1) cannot miscalculate in a very
complex position? The commercial chess
programs I have disagree on this game quite
frequently, except that they do agree that no
matter which line is followed afterward, White
gets the advantage. Personally, I think Rybka
could beat the GetClub program from the "lost"
position, given substantial thinking time.

But point taken. But

Well, since we don't know if the 1800 claim
is valid, there is not much point in trying to
use "Ivan" as a benchmark.

On the ratings list I downloaded, listing every
computer tested since day one, the bottom
programs are now rated about 500 points below
what they were originally on the same lists! In
other words, if you took a program "certified"
back then at say, 2000 USCF, it is now listed
at around 1500 due to being pummeled by the
more recent, much stronger computers. With
Rybka the top-rated on the list, there is a gap
of well over a thousand points before you
would get to Ivan 1, *if* the manufacturer's
claim fit this list! I think that leaves room for
a few blunders, here and there. :D

because people don't like Sanny... .

Are you kidding? People *love* Sanny. He is our daily source of
entertainment. And leaving aside his GitClub hyperbole, I bet he
would be an interesting guy to have a beer with.
