Default How to Study Master Games

I read from chesscafe.com Novice Nook that one should study many games
from strong players (e.g.
masters) to get a good feel how a game is conducted.

My question is - how fast is fast? And how do we contrast this study
method with the method of
guessing the winner's move, which I'm more familiar with, and as far
as I'm concerned, is not a
very fast way.
