embarrassment]

HBO has once again made an excellent show.
HBO *and SHO make these types of show much better than "hollywood" or the
regular networks do.

What's there is good. *But since McCullough did the research already-
they could certainly have done 20 episodes without breaking a sweat. I
hope their ratings are good & they decide to do some more founders-
maybe a little deeper.

I still haven't read McCullough's book. I read Ellis's "Passionate
Sage" just before the McCullough book came out & now my son has it.

That's right - they skipped Harvard entirely - and that would have been an
interesting anthropological record. I suppose Hanks had to edit the author's
entry's on this subject, and that is something to do with the nature of tv
and mass audiences.

Yes - to go beyond McC, there is a collection, Copyright 2007, Massachusetts
Historical Society, publ Belnap Press, Harvard U, of their letters
together - titled "My Dearest Friend."

Here is a little extract of her candour, her wit and very appreciable
intelligence, dated Ap. 14, 1776:-

As to Declarations of Independency, be patient. Read our Privateering
Laws, and our Commercial Laws. What signifies a Word.

As to your extraordinary Code of Laws, I cannot but laugh. We have been
told that our Struggle has loosened the bands of Government every Where.
That Children and Apprentices were disobedient - that schools and Colledges

grew insolent to their Masters. But your letter was the first Intimation
that another Tribe more numerous and powerfull than all the rest were grown

HBO has once again made an excellent show.
HBO and SHO make these types of show much better than "hollywood" or the
regular networks do.

What's there is good. But since McCullough did the research already-
they could certainly have done 20 episodes without breaking a sweat. I
hope their ratings are good & they decide to do some more founders-
maybe a little deeper.

Sage" just before the McCullough book came out & now my son has it.

I recall watching that when it first aired on PBS. Quite good.

It was the first program my father and I really sat down and watched
together. It was, I thought, a brilliant program. I have been hoping
it would be released soo. I have been searching for it for years on
DVD or VHS.
