About the only things that go worse together than chess and
commercial TV are sign-language and radio.

Agreed.

If I had a choice between chess on telly and director's cut Waterworld it'd be Costner every time.

"Waterworld" is actually not all that bad. In its action scenes it
borrowed a lot from "The Crimson Pirate," a 1952 Burt Lancaster
swashbuckler. And it was a clever touch to have the Smokers gang
living on the Exxon Valdez.

Well, the problem is that while Chess used to be an exciting game,
that spoil-sport Steinitz [ ] ruined it.

On my web site, at

http://quadibloc.com/chess/ch010301.htm

I present one possible solution to the problem, inspired by how the
game of Go had a similar problem resolved by the use of _komidashi_.

You can make chess as exciting as poker (zzzzzzzzzzzzz) if you do two things: (1) allow betting, and, (2) allow and encourage naked ladies to play the game.
