Because _I'm_ the idiot _with_ the brain and you're just the sad twit without. It must be kind of hard to realize that even an idiot can instantly find information that you are not able to retrieve at all - let alone read it when it is retrieved for you. Practice hard boy, one day you'll bypass your handicap. And improve your handlllllling of keyboard keys. And wipe your own ass. -- CeeBee Uxbridge: "By God, sir, I've lost my leg!" What you are looking for is probably what Lasker is saying in his book
"Common Sense in Chess" The book is an abstract of 12 lectures he gave in London in 1895. The first lecture is opened with the following words: COMMON SENSE IN CHESS No. 1 Gentlemen: It is customary to begin with definitions, but I am sure that all of you are so well acquainted with the essential parts of the history, the rules and the characteristics of Chess, that you will allow me to jump at once in medias res. Chess has been represented, or shall I say misrepresented, as a game—that is, a thing which could not well serve a serious purpose, solely created for the enjoyment of an empty hour. If it were a game only, Chess would never have survived the serious trials to which it has, during the long time of its existence, been often subjected. By some ardent enthusiasts Chess has been elevated into a science or an art. It is neither; but its principal characteristic seems to be—what human nature mostly delights in—a fight. Not a fight, indeed, such as would tickle the nerves of coarser natures, where blood flows and the blows delivered leave their visible traces on the bodies of the combatants, but a fight in which the scientific, the artistic, the purely intellectual element holds undivided sway. From this standpoint, a game of Chess becomes a harmonious whole, the outlines of which I will endeavor to describe to you in this course of lectures. regards, Dik "Wet_Chess_Dreams" schreef in bericht news ![]() Does anyone know where I can find the entire quote? |

Yes, you indeed are the idiot CeeGeek! You are too braindead to understand a simple sentence in your own native language. Learn how to read english, then come back to the NG's and try to be "helpful" at that point. I won't try to communicate with you in _my_ native language, as you seem to have enough problems with your _own_ English language, let alone with my Dutch native tongue. That's why I owe you an apology. Given your clumsy and helpless efforts to communicate I withdraw my harsh words about you having no brain. I was wrong. You're a peabrain. -- CeeBee Uxbridge: "By God, sir, I've lost my leg!" Wellington: "By God, sir, so you have!" Google CeeBee @ www.geocities.com/ceebee_2 |
