... I would add Leonid Stein and Yefim Geller! Yeah, but they were not from the deep past like Bogo or Bogatyrchuk. And what`s more important did they feel like being citizens of Ukraine or rather of CCCP ? Regards, Jerzy |

There have been some great players from the Ukraine.I wonder who was considered
to be the Greatest Ukrainian Chess Player of all time? But they were not from the deep past like Bogo or Bogatyrchuk. I suppose my post would have been more appropiate to an earlier post on this thread. As far as chess politics I agree Stein and Geller were treated as citizens of CCCP.However I have heard speculation that Steins life could have been sustained with better medical attention.I believe Stein would have had real chances in the Candidates Cycle that Karpov won. |

Although it is a strange concept to inhabitants of the more liberal democracies, many would draw a distinciton between "Ukranian players" (e.g. Ivanchuk) and "players from Ukraine (e.g. Geller). This last comment is typically astute. Of course "Lvov" used to be "Lwow" when it was part of the Kingdom of Poland (a land whose eastern border has, in the past, *crossed*, and been crossed by, its western border...) Mark You mean it's not "Lemberg" any more? I have such trouble keeping up with these things. Now if I could just figure out what ever became of Leopolis... |

(aka Woody Allen) Personally, I cannae stand W. Allen's brand of humour, yes I know, his daddy was a N.y.c. cab driver, & yea I even know all about Mia's troubles & trials, over Woodies love & lust for the young, adopted Korean, female child. Is there something amiss with my distaste for this mans play on humour, or is it simply not being able to relate to the 'geek'? Please help with suggestions, I like involuntary laughter.. |

Try listening to Leonard Cohen. That should cheer you up.... Em, Foulsby, why don't you go over to rgcc for a bit & make a bigger nothing of yourself than you're doing here. Uh?.. |
