There was a recent posting on the chesstalk.com bulletin board on this
subject. I would be interested to know if anyone was aware of self-published games collections from non-masters. Who has done it? How did they prepare their games, i.e. format, etc.? How did they go about printing their work? Also, has anyone seen any of these that are particularly well done? Thanks |

Many of the basic questions -- i.e. those that don't deal with the specificalities of chess printing -- are explained by the publish-on-demand companies. Try googling for 'print-on-demand' or 'publish-on-demand', and look around for guidelines or directions to would-be authors. There are also one or two printed guides. Also, has anyone seen any of these that are particularly well done? Not so far. I'd look to pre-1960 printing for *good* chess books (typographically speaking), and I'd probably go for British or German publishers before any others. But that's a matter of taste. -- Anders Thulin http://www.algonet.se/~ath |

I prepared "My Fewest Best Games of Chess" by writing the title and my name on the front cover and writing "The End" on the inside back cover of a blank book, such as you might buy at a stationer's. I sent the only copy to Alex Dunne, so because of his tragic fire, I assume the entire first edition is gone. David Ames |
