Alex made a poor judgment.
What a ****ing euphemism. There was no doubt about it. Regardless how the trial goes, his reputation has been damaged. However, as long as I have known him since the junior days, he has been one of the nicest person in chess. And that makes him above the law? He has a long list of friends who will testify on his behalf starting tomorrow. I always hated that concept (along with "victim impact statements") because it implies that having more friends carries weight in a court of law, even in a society where those who fight corruption usually have fewer friends. Some of these names have a lot of credibility in the chess world. I am not sure if it will help or not but let's wish him the best. He cannot read your message because he is not allowed to use the Internet. Gee, that's shocking. However, your message will be given to him. Thank you for supporting a friend Ben. Take care! As I said before, I've been accused of what Alex was accused of, and I was accused of it because I exposed child abuse in gymnastics (I found out about it because the gymnastics world abuses much the same way as the chess world does, with the same countries involved). One of the louder accusers of mine was a 2500+ rated chessplayer who decided that he was a one-man vigilante. Wonder what he has to say now. I never found Alex to be nice or not nice. I found him to be an IM strength player, and that's about all I needed to know to share a spot on the wallcharts with him. |

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the post...I am glad Alex will get the message. If Alex or his attoney needs to contact me, let me know. Tell Alex to always remember how to say "construction worker" in Hungarian (he will know what I mean)...and no laughing fits in court, it may look bad to the jury. ![]() BPF (Paul Truong) wrote in message om... I think he should be yelled at a lot by his friends, but if I Alex is convicted I will feel a little bit dead inside. I have known Alex for almost 20 years, and he is no criminal, just a bit odd....like everyone else..but in a different way. I hope Joel and Susan can help out all they can, and get this silliness over with quickly. I am not sure what they can do, but I guess if they are there, it may help. I wish I was there as well. Alex, if you ever read this....don't do stupid **** anymore. Unless it is chess related...like c5? in the Bayonet... I have not posted about this previously, as I am afraid of rec.games.chess retribution, from the people who post here ad nauseum (I guess there are only about 10 people who actually post here, but a lot more read the posts). But I am getting quite upset with this whole mess, so the hell with it. If you knew Alex like I do, you know that his going to prison is an absurdity. BPF |

Dear Ben:
I sure will not speculate on what took place or what will happen. However, he seemed to be in good spirit when I saw him recently. He understands how serious the situation is. He said he will set the record straight when he is allowed to. He also said many of the things that have been floating around are not true. But he really appreciates the support he gets. I will make sure he will get your message as well as from others. Thanks Ben! Best Regards, Paul (Ben Finegold) wrote in message . com... Dear Paul,
Heil Dubya! If you have been in touch with Alex, you know much more than has been published on these fora, most of it lies and malicious speculation, I'm sure. Please tell Alex I wish him the VERY BEST and ask him if he would be available -- at my standard offer for GMs -- were I to get up the money for a Cat. X tournament. (NO PROMISES, but I'm working on it.) Incidentally, while I have known and respected you for years, I wasn't aware of the depth of your humanity until recently. Congratulations on taking an active stand on the Sherzer frameup. Heute Uhmuhrikkka, Afghanistan und Irak! Morgen die ganze Welt! Uhmuhrikkka, Uhmuhrikkka uber Alles! (Was 11 September 2001 Kristalnacht or the date of the Reichstag fire?) Fraternally, Jerry Bibuld gens una sumus |

Well, not for nothing, but do any of you guys that are in Alex's corner have
kids? He initially did correspond with a minor, so I am curious if any of you have kids. Regards, Jeff |

I have a 12 yr old girl. So you can see why my anger is justifiable.

My point EXACTLY! If he would have had that conversation with MY daughter, no police would have been involved at all, he would have just gone "missing". While the circumstances of his case are questionable, he still thought he was talking to a 15 year old GIRL. A GIRL. He still thought he was corresponding with a girl. So while he was corresponding with what HE THOUGHT was a 15 year old girl, what kind of feelings was he having? Was he anxious to go and meet WHAT HE THOUGHT was a girl? I saw someone say that "sure, he's a little ODD", well YEAH!! If you like kids you WOULD be a little ODD. I don't care what stature he has, who he is, who his friends are, he still THOUGHT he was talking to a 15 year old girl and had every intention of carrying out this act. That counts for NOTHING though? Sure, maybe not prison time because he didn't actually DO anything, but it should be WELL known that he's a pervert and I hope his reputation and standing ARE ruined. But the law being what it is, he'll more than likely get off because his "friends" will have their say in court and paint this pretty picture of Mr. Sherzer. I just hope that if thats the case and he dares show his face at a tournament someone has the balls to tell him what a scumbag he is. |

Even thinking about doing something illegal, like having someone go "missing", may get you in trouble. As this case may show, not only the crime, but the mere thinking of, and planning of, can get you in hot water. Have the thought police arrived? I certainly hope not. |

Dear Jeff:
I have an 11-year old daughter and a 10-year old son. As I said, I told Alex my opinion of his actions. What I said to him is between me and him. However, there are some facts that the public do not know. I think people should hold the judgment until after the trial. Everyone is in agreement that he made a very poor judgment. But to look at the case purely based on what the newspaper stated is unfair. Let the legal system takes care of itself. Let the facts be known once it is available and both sides can comment on it. Best Regards, Paul (Mogath3) wrote in message ... Well, not for nothing, but do any of you guys that are in Alex's corner have kids?
