It turns out that the decision to have Sherzer go on the stand, and
admit wrongdoing was quite correct. It was a big risk, but it paid off for him. By essentially admitting to what the State accused him of doing, he allowed the jury to focus on the nature of the crime (even the Prosecutor admitted that Sherzer's actions might be interpreted as barely legal), and on the entrapment defense. I'm surprised that the jury bought entrapment, but fortunately for Sherzer the agent was a bit too energetic in his sting, and it was also clear that the tenor of the conversation changed in a dramatic way, from when Sherzer was actually conversing with the girl. I doubt that the agent will be given another opportunity to do a similar sting. |

If he had, I don't think he would have stood a chance. Also, if the girl had been much younger, I think he would have been convicted. All in all, I think there were lessons to be learned here by law enforcement, Alex Sherzer, and the girls parents. |

He obviously has a taste for young girls and like I said in a previous post, hopefully when the same thing happens again and it will because he'll now think he'll get away with it, he won't have the chance to really do anything and the next time he won't walk away so easy. |

No history? How do you come to that conclusion? He admitted it! It is what kept him out of prison. Alex knew he was a dead duck and so threw himself on the mercy of the court. This is the first time he got caught if that is what your saying. The real struggle for Alex his whole life is topsy-turvey and all he can do is try to get at least a portion of his life back. You can tell by some posters here that they don't look at Alex the same way as before. EZoto |

Of course I was refering to known history [ criminal record ]. Having a taste for young girls is very common, and quite normal. The problem Alex had, was the poor judgement to be lured into having sex with a 15 year old, which is illegal in Alabama unless the couple is married and has parental consent. It would stand to reason that he will play it safe from now on, and stick with 18 and up. I'm 55 years old myself, and always enjoy the occasional roll in the hay with an 18 or 19 year old. |

Having a taste for young girls is common? Maybe, but 15? I liked 15 year old girls when I was ummmm FIFTEEN, but when I was 32? To me, thats perverted and I think Alex is a pervert that walked away from it THIS TIME. I do NOT feel bad that his life may be ruined by this. Not in the least. All he had to do was cut off the correspondance once it turned sexual and none of this would have even happened to him. He chose not to do that, so he he should have to live with that choice. An 18 or 19 year old girl may be one thing, but it sure as hell isn't 15. |

As a matter of fact the whole thing may have been a good learning experience for all involved. Sexual attraction to any girl who has reached puberty is certainly not perversion. Was he guilty of mis-judgement? Certainly. |

C'mon, a 32 year old man attracted to a 15 year old girl? Thats just not normal. |
