Right Almira, he is a fine chess composer too. But why have you written
about him in the past tense ? I think he is capable of creating some more
great etudes nowadays.

Jerzy

A few questions about the notes:

1) 1. g7 a1=Q+ 2. Kb5 Qg1 =
-- Would you really call that position "="?

2) 4. f8=B!!
-- Doesn't 4. Nf1 also win?

In Study 1) : 1. g7 a1=Q+ 2. Kb5 Qg1 =
3.f6 ! the square b1 is watched two times by the white bishop and the white
knigt and the two pawns f6 and g7 threating to promote force black to give
pepetual check I think.

On 4.Nf1 4....QxBb1 5.g8=Q Qxd3+ 6.Kc5 Qc3 + 7.Qc4 b1=Q-+

5... Qxd3+ is not a legal move.

He still has a nice voice too. I`ve never heard that he has sung at the
opera although he had a professional training not only in chess but in
singing as well. There has been recently on this newsgroup a link to his
latest concerto ;-)

I wonder why 5... Qxd3+ would not be a legal move.

Perhaps we are not working from the same starting position.

I am analyzing:

[FEN "k7/p7/P5Pp/K4P1P/3p3P/3p4/ppBN1b2/8 w - - 0 1"]

in which d3 is occupied by a *Black* pawn, which black can hardly capture.

.... which I now see is a transcription error from the original position

Never mind.
