Default Lev Khariton:Kasparov-Schwarzenegger, Bizarre Friendship

"Regular visitors to our site will know that Arnold Schwarzenegger is
interested in chess – a few months ago we had an article on his
involvement in the game. But did you know that "Arnie" is a good buddy
of Garry Kasparov?"
This is what we can read at www.chessbase.com Good food for thought!
Especially if you remember that during the Second World War
Schwarzenegger's father was a dyed-in-the-wool nazi and Arnold
Schwarzenegger, as he recently admitted, after the media's dramatic
revelations, worshipped Hitler as his role model. So, Kasparov is now
rubbing elbows with someone who was in his young years (only young)
wrapped up in the fuhrer's monstrous follies of conquering the whole
world and exterminating millions of Jews? Well, the saying has it:
tell me who is your friend, and I'll tell you who you are! How about
Garry's recent pronouncements as regards Hitler, Stalin and Saddam?
How does it all fit in with those pictures where we can see him
playing chess with the new governor of California? Did you see
Alekhine's pictures playing chess with the nazi butchers? Good food
for thought, I repeat…

Well, maybe I should not respond to your hatred-making letter but I just
couldn`t resist the temptation to ask you the question : where have you seen
Alekhine`s pictures playing with nazi butchers - had he played with Goebbels
games of chess - or maybe you`ve mixed Paul Keres, Klaus Junge etc. with the
real nazi butchers ?

Jerzy

This is an utter lie. Schwarzenegger has repudiated those rumors in the
strongest possible terms. And he is a longtime supporter, including large
financial contributions, of the Simon Weisenthal center. Not exactly an
institution that a nazi would choose to associate himself with.

Lev Khariton was not writing about Keres or Junge. But try to open
Magazine "Chess in Russia"( edited by grandmaster Yuri Averbakh) n5
for 1995, and you will find a photo of Alekhine playing with the
highest SS officers who controlled Poland.Apart from this photograph,
it is authentically established by now that Alekhine was the author of
the most atrocious anti-Semitic articles during the Second World War
in which he wrote dirty things about Lasker, Steinitz, Rubinstein,
Nimzovich... Aryeh Davidoff

Whom did he play ? What highest SS officer : Rudolf Hess ? - he was shot
dead by Polish underground resistance movement - surely he invited Alekhine
to occupied Poland where he was commander-in-chief. Just curious.

Aryeh, there were many discussions on his articles during ww2 in this
newsgroup. Just look them up in the archive. I don`t want to discuss them
one more irrelevant time. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn`t the author - for
sure he collaborated with nazis. And that`s no argument against Kasparov or
Schwarzenegger.

I`m just curious about the photos : where can they be found apart from the
"Chess in Russia" and whom did he play ?

Regards,
Jerzy

Oops... my mistake : should be Franz Kutschera (1904-44) instead of Rudolf
Hess.
