On one hand Morphy, Steinitz, Reshevski, Najdorf, Bronstein,
Tal, Petrosian were short (Bronstein still is), on the other hand Marshall, Euve, Keres, Smyslov, Fischer, Kramnik were or are tall. Also Alechine was fairly tall, and so is Spassky. Do strong women chess players tend to be on the short side? Some chessplayers are/were medium tall for their generation and environment but short on the global scale. Well? Regards, Wlod PS. Rating institutions should (optionally) collect all kind of trivia about the chess players, so that I would be able to make or disproof all kind of correlations :-) |

Kasparov is about 6 foot 8 inches tall and Kramnik about 6' 10". But I seem to remember that Vera Menchik was 8 foot 4". Quite extraordinary! Alan |

Have you people been watching reruns of Monty Python? This whole
thread seems to be inspired by the sketch "Archeology Today". |
