Instead of 8. Bh4, better is Bxf6, imo. Then after 8...Qxf6, 9.
Nd5 followed by 10. c3 angling for a later d4. This is the famous
Canal variation. However this is more often reached by

1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Bc4 Bc5
4. d3 Nf6
5. Nc3 d6
6. Bg5 h3
7. Bxf6 Qxf6
8. Nd5 Qd1 or Qg6
9. c3 aiming for a later d4 and white has a miniscule plus, imo.
