Does anyone know where you could find information on building your own
chess clock?

Years ago, when I was in high school, a friend of mine built a box
with a toggle on top which switched electrical power between two
plugs. With a pair of electric alarm clocks plugged into the box, you
had a rudimentary chess clock. Instead of pushing a button on top of
the clock, you pushed the toggle toward your opponent. It was a wee
bit ungainly looking, but it had the advantage that you could put each
clock to normal use after the game.

What I have done that works sorta good, is I took 2 cheap standard analog
stop watches, and attached them to a piece of wood with a little base. This
have served me well for many years, and only set me back $25.00.

Now the only problem as you can clearly see is that you have to be sure that
when you hit your stop watch to end your time, that you also in turn start
your opponents.. Its easy to forget or miss in an intense game, but has
worked for me and my friends for quite a while.

I once saw a multi LED read out sports stopwatch that would be perfect, and
I forgot where I saw it, will have to do some looking around and see if I
can find it again.

If you are like me, I feel chess clocks are way overpriced, and that a twin
LED read out design would be easy to make and not cost more than $20.00.
