Our chess club is toying with the idea of "importing" a Grandmaster on a one
year contract to South Africa.
Where is the best place to look or place an advertisement?
Regards
Joe

How about the former Soviet Union? Say Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan
to start with? There's probably plenty of starving GM's there.

Go on ICC and start asking around.
I've seen finger notes offering. If you want gm strength, you might try
andrey deviatkin or maybe someone younger like that.

Thanx, Marco, but how do I get hold of these guys?
We will need someone with fairly good English, will this be a problem?
We will require him to participate in our club evenings and play for us in
the league (12 games), and are are prepared to sponsor accommodation and
basic needs (groceries, etc)
As a GM he should have no problem winning most (all?) tournaments in South
Africa, we do not have any GM's here. He should do well playing 2 weekend
tournaments per month, and in many cases will probably be able to command an
appearance fee.
He should also be able to give as many lessons at at least $25 per hour as
he can fit into his schedule. We have a great demand for that sort of thing.
Flobby Bischer wrote in his reply about "players of GM strength", but it is
important to us that he must have the title of GM.
Regards
Joe

As the official head of Professional Committee of Israeli Chess Federation,
may I forward this request to our grandmasters?

You could try the FIDE website, www.fide.com, from which you can
choose various regional websites. Also on websites like playchess.com
you often find GM's or IM's logged on who are connecting from
all sorts of countries.
Good luck,

Marco
