Maybe they meant that he didn't play in the qualifying tournament.
Benko gave up his place to let Fischer play, I think.

Right, they're confused. He sat out the ZONAL, which was the U.S.

Sounds like a tough way to run an encyclopedia. What happens when you have
competing interests who want to, umm, "edit" an entry like "History of the
Israeli/Palestinian Conflict."
