Default Building a chessboard

Hello, I was wondering if someone could tell me how many squares are needed
on a standard chessboard? I am looking to make a chessboard, and need some
starting dimensions -- any useful information would be greatly apprecaited.

Thank you,
Arky G,

There are 204 squares on a standard chessboard.

Dave.

Wrong!!! That number isn't evenly divided by 8.

That's because the number of squares on a standard chessboard isn't
divisible by eight.

A chessboard has
1 square 8 units by 8 units
4 squares 7 units by 7 units
9 squares 6 units by 6 units
etc. up to
64 squares one unit by one unit.

This adds up to 204 squares.

But the person who wants to make a board only needs to know about the 64
squares of area one square unit.
