Question about SCID (I'm using ver. 3.5) - I'm a relatively new user
and love it so far. My question relates to saving changes made using the comment editor. What works: If I open a PGN database, and edit or add some of the annotations using the comments editor, the changes show up fine in the PGN window. What doesn't work: When I choose the --Game menu, the options "Save: Replace Game" and "Save: Add New Game" are greyed out! So I haven't figured a way of saving the changed PGN file. My question: How do I save an existing PGN with the added/edited annotations I have changed? Thanks in advance for any tips! -Jestrada |

My question: How do I save an existing PGN with the added/edited annotations I have changed? You have to "export" it, since scid opens PGN files read-only: "You can also use Scid as a PGN file browser, by pasting PGN text into Scids Import window or by opening a PGN file in Scid. However, PGN files cannot be edited by Scid (it opens them read-only)...." However, you can use Tools:Export Current Game...: and overwrite the file. Having said that, I prefer to edit the PGN file by hand using a text editor and use scid simply as a browser/board (reopening the PGN file as needed). -- Charles Allen |

Thanks for the tip Charles! The "export" feature is a good work around.

Thanks for the tip Charles! The "export" feature is a good work around. Exporting is one possibility. But I would prefer to work with binary SCID files (*.si3). All you have to do is create a new (empty) database, copy/move your games into that database and store it. Working with this database is much faster - and you can apply any changes you want. And you can export it as PGN should you really need that. Thomas - http://www.playchess.de |
