I've been playing internet chess and all of a sudden I'm hanging everything in site. How the heck do you get out of one of these slumps? I played 3 games and in 2 of them I just hang my Queen like an early Christmas present while the other I hang a piece in 7 moves. EZoto |

It usually takes me two or three days of playing moronic chess like that to realise that the problem is playing while tired. Could that be your problem, here? I have to admit that I have done that though I didn't feel tired today. I was yesterday and played. I thought just playing through it would work yet today it was just horrendous and I don't feel that tired. EZoto |

Dear EZoto, When you are in a slump, your accumulating negative emotions about your play tend to make you play worse. The worse you play, the worse you feel; the worse you feel, the worse you play. So cut short the 'downward spiral'. Just stop playing for a while. I played 3 games and in 2 of them I just hang my Queen like an early Christmas present while the other I hang a piece in 7 moves. It usually takes me two or three days of playing moronic chess like that to realise that the problem is playing while tired. Could that be your problem, here? Dear Mr. Richerby, You have my sympathy. But if you were less tired, then could you not have realised sooner that you were playing 'moronic chess'? :-) Best wishes in your games. --Nick |

No, no, no!
Play through it. It's not going to last forever. As long as you can focus on learning one (1) thing out of every game you play, then the losing takes a back seat to your improvement. If you let defeats paralyze you then you are only feeding your fear of losing by not playing. ....and everytime you start losing you will think about taking a break... Take your rating and flush it down the toilet and just go out and play. Ask yourself if you are having "fun" with your whole chess experience? Or are you anxious? If you are not having fun, then your problem is deeper than just going through a slump. Regards, MC --- "David Richerby" wrote in message ... My impression was that EZoto (this thread's creator) seemed too upset with himself to 'focus on learning' from his continuing losses. If you let defeats paralyze you then you are only feeding your fear of losing by not playing. ...and everytime you start losing you will think about taking a break... If you are not having fun, then your problem is deeper than just going through a slump. I don't believe that there's only one 'right way' to respond to going through a slump. What should be done may depend on the individual player's experiences and expectations. --Nick "David Richerby" wrote in message ... Drink quality Vodka while playing. After several shots, you won't care if
