It was an on-line, USCF quick chess rated tournament on USCL. People
jump in and out of those all the time.

Yeah, I know it was. I quoted what I was responding to, you're just too
big of an idiot to get it. I was just pointing out that quitting a
tournament to get a high provisional rating makes you a freakin' loser.
A few other people pointed this out as well.

You stated what post you thought I was responding to, and you were
clearly wrong. Now you launch an ad hominem attack, rather than
simply admitting you were wrong; then in another post, you make an
analogy to murder. Give me a freakin' break. But enough is enough --
we've each made our points. Check out a USCL 10/2 tourney sometime.
Generally, out of roughly 80 participants, only about 15 will play all
5 rounds. The numbers will vary, but it is very common to jump in and
out of those, unlike OTB tourneys. Many leave early, many join late.
It's a different world. Besides, what I didn't mention was that my
son was waiting to play chess on our home computer, and when I jumped
out of that tournament, he jumped in under his USCF ID. You can see
that on the cross-tables, if you know where to look. I don't plan on
staying provisional forever. I'll likely play another 10/2 tourney
when I can find the time (assuming they are still having them), and my
rating will then likely drop to where it belongs.

This was a funny way of saying that someone who wins a game and then
quits so he can have a high provisional rating is a loser. I'm sorry you
were unable to get the joke.

And you didn't say, "Well, I quit because my son wanted to use the
computer," you said you quit so you could have a high rating. Regardless
of how many people quit these tournaments, that's a lame reason to quit.

Finally, IIRC, you were the one to START the ad hominem attacks by
calling me a moron for responding to the wrong post. You just lacked the
