Actually, I did beat an 1800+ once...as Black! One of my best games, I went out of my usual box and played an sacrificial line of the Scandinavian (where you don't reclaim the pawn), figuring what the hell, I'm going to lose anyway, might as well go down screaming in flames... BUT, he unwisely fianchettoed on the Kingside, giving me a lovely target...game ended in a suprise middle-game mate! I was a 1200-something player at the time, so I drag that one out during brag sessions. --TMB ____________________________ I beat a near 1800 in quickchess 10/2, then immediately withdrew from the tourney, because it was my first quick chess game and I wanted to see myself with a provisional rating of near 2200. Cheap, I know, but fun. kd |

In article , (KidDon) gives the following ANSWER: I beat a near 1800 in quickchess 10/2, then immediately withdrew from the tourney, because it was my first quick chess game and I wanted to see myself with a provisional rating of near 2200. Cheap, I know, but fun. Apparently, this is in response to: QUESTION: How can you win and still be a complete loser? --Harold Buck "I used to rock and roll all night, and party every day. It was in response to TMB's post about beating an 1800. Yeah, I know it was. I quoted what I was responding to, you're just too big of an idiot to get it. I was just pointing out that quitting a tournament to get a high provisional rating makes you a freakin' loser. A few other people pointed this out as well. I can follow threads just fine and have been doing so for many years. --Harold Buck "I used to rock and roll all night, and party every day. Then it was every other day. . . ." -Homer J. Simpson _______________________________ You stated what post you thought I was responding to, and you were clearly wrong. Now you launch an ad hominem attack, rather than simply admitting you were wrong; then in another post, you make an analogy to murder. Give me a freakin' break. But enough is enough -- we've each made our points. Check out a USCL 10/2 tourney sometime. Generally, out of roughly 80 participants, only about 15 will play all 5 rounds. The numbers will vary, but it is very common to jump in and out of those, unlike OTB tourneys. Many leave early, many join late. It's a different world. Besides, what I didn't mention was that my son was waiting to play chess on our home computer, and when I jumped out of that tournament, he jumped in under his USCF ID. You can see that on the cross-tables, if you know where to look. I don't plan on staying provisional forever. I'll likely play another 10/2 tourney when I can find the time (assuming they are still having them), and my rating will then likely drop to where it belongs. Peace, KidDon |
