At least that's the name and date from my reference, but my reference also
quotes an illegal move. Can't find it on chesslab.

Thanks for the correct spelling.

I have an old Chess Digest pamphlet that quotes part of a game Ghitescu -
Purevzhav, Varna, 1962.

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 ed 4.c3 d5 5.ed Qxd5 6.cxd4 Bb4+ 7.Nc3 Nf6

But this may well be an error.

Thanks to Ken and ChessBase's MegaDatabase 2003, the mystery of the

Ghitescu-Purevzhav game is solved. It looks like the game was played in the
Romania-Mongolia match in the 5th World Student Team Championship, when
Ghitescu was 24 years old and three years away from being awarded the IM title
by FIDE. It took him another 25 years before he received the GM title. About
his Mongolian opponent, S. Purevzhav, in the 1958 student team tournament, I
have no information about him in the way of a biography - not even his first
name or his date of birth.
