Default Who said, "Tonight I'm playing against the black pieces."

I read it somewhere and can't find it again. Somebody asked a master of
yesteryear, I think it was, who he was playing that night. Whoever it was
said, "Tonight I'm playing against black," or something like that. The point
was that he played chess and not people.

It just might be more to it that that.

He could have been playing Adolf Schwarz. If the event was Vienna 1882
(or perhaps even Graz 1880), the player who made that announcement might
even have been Weiss.

It works much better in German ...
