We are so used to thinking about Morphy as the juggernaut that
vanquished all commers, it is interesting to look at his defeats. The new chess site cajunchess.com has a mega list of Morphy's games. Take a look at the Anderson- Morphy game #10 (1858 Paris). Anderson begins with a3!!. The game ends with Anderson's Bishop and three Pawns trumping Morphy's Rook. A very atypical Morphy loss that illustrates that he was vulnerable in less open positions. |
