On the other hand, sporting events were not consided to be a violation
of UN Sanctions.


Sam Sloan apparently believes the DOJ simply made a "clerical error" in
sending Fischer a warning about his chessmatch, which they simply didn't
realize was connected with the famous "sport" of chess (similar to
sumo-wrestling, but the figures are much smaller, and they "wrestle" on a
wodden board).

The chess match between Boris Spassky and Bobby Fischer clearly was
not a commercial contact of the type prohibited by UN Sanctions.


This may be "clear" to Sam Sloan, but it wasn't clear to the DOJ, nor is it
"clear" to me how five million dollars can be swept under the rug, just because
it is somehow connected to chess, be it a sport or a game.


Thus, the Executive Order directing Fischer not to play the match was
entirely bogus


So you say. But can you provide anything substantive to back up this bogus
claim? By "substantive" I mean having substance, like say, a rock. Not like
quicksand, jello, foam, or cotton-candy, but like a ROCK. :-)
