Depends what was meant by `American'. Capablanca was born in Havana
in 1888, when Cuba was a colony of Spain; Mecking was Brazilian; Panno
Argentine. So, all were born in the Americas but `American' usually
has a more specific meaning than that.

Surely Ivan meant the USA but 'American' is a much wider definition
including two continents.
