Default Early American-born GMs

The first American-born player to be awarded the GM title by FIDE was
Reuben Fine (1914-1993), who received the title in 1950.
Other Americans who received the title in the early years:

1954: Isaac Kashdan (1905-1985), IM title in 1950.
1957: Arthur Bisguier (1929- ), IM in 1950, and Larry Evans (1932- ), IM in
1952.
1958: Robert Fischer (1943- ), IM in 1957.
1960: William Lombardy (1937- ), IM in 1957.
1964: Robert Byrne (1928- ), IM in 1952

All except Fischer were born in New York City.

Other American-born players awarded IM titles:

1950: Israel Albert Horowitz (1907-1973)
1954: Arthur Dake (1910-2000)
1958: James Sherwin (1933- )
1961: Raymond Weinstein (1941- )
1962: Donald Byrne (1930-1976)
1965: Norman T. Whitaker (1890-1975)
1968: William Addison (1933- )
