Default Behind the times

In his recently interview for the Russian newspaper "Moskovski Komsomolec"
Kramnik said that Kasparov is no longer the best player in the world because
Kasparov finished behind Leko and Kramnik in the last two Linares
tournaments.

It's obviously that Kasparov's strength declined rapidly and in my opinion
there are already several grandmasters who are stronger than he. They a
Anand, Kramnik, Leko, (and Fischer). I foresee that the tendency will
continue next year and some more grandmaster will surpass Kasparov for two
years (Svidler, Morozevich...). It's possible that if the process of
unification in chess continue with current rapidity at last Kasparov will be
so weak, that the result of that match will be so easy predictable, like in
match Capablanca - Lasker played in Havana in 1921.

Nice quote. But unfotunately, it often happens that the facts don't quite
square with GT's version of reality. Here are some official ratings from
April, 2004 -- a date which should not be too far "behind the times":

1. Kasparov 2817
2. Anand 2774
3. Kramnik 2764
4. Leko 2741

You should note that not only is Kasparov on top, but he is the only (human)
2800 player in the world. In addition, Fischer is nowhere to be found, not
because his rating is so old, but because his last performance would not nearly
make the cut. Believe you me, if and when Kasparov's actual (not imagined)
results drop him off the top tier, I will loudly join your celebration,
cheering the fact that an infamous liar and cheater has finally met his
Waterloo. But until then, give the Devil his due! :-)
