word "Earth," while the interpretters of the Bible spake of mere dirt (or
earth)?

Apparently, either somebody mucked-up their translation, or else it was not
believed (i.e. known) that *the Earth* was a planet, one of nine which revolve
around the Sun, which itself is but one of innumerable such great lights in the
sky.
