Goran Fischer vs. Michael Sayers

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.b4 Bxb4 5.c3 Ba5 6.d4 exd4 7.0-0 dxc3
8.Qb3 Qf6 9.e5 Qf5 10.Nxc3 Nge7 11.Ba3 Rb8 12.Nd5 Nxd5 13.Bxd5 h6
14.Rac1 Bb6 15.Rfd1 g5 16.Qb2 Rg8 17.Bc5

The role of the White Bishop on a3 is done. It's now time to use it to
its full potential and neutralize Black's very good Bishop.

The attack continues...

Michael Sayers vs. Goran Fischer

I agree with Karpov on some things.--MJS

Aha, the Karpov system in the Najdorf. It begins with the above
moves and continuing on to 7.Nb3 Be7 8.0-0 0-0. The Karpov plan begins
after 9.Be3 with 10.Qd2 11.a4 12.a5. He popularized it in the
early 1980s.

I would rather be White in the Karpov System. IMO, it is a very
dynamic opening.

In their book, "The Complete Najdorf: Modern Lines", GMs John Nunn and
Joe Gallagher said, "This is one of the most popular lines in the
entire Najdorf, leading to strategically complex positions with
chances for both sides. Tactics, for once, are not so important!"

I don't know how much of a chance Black has, but it remains to be
seen.

You mean Black's resignation. There's no mate because Black can
give back what he had taken and more...

Obviously, Black's situation has been critical for some time - but
there is no way for White concentrate enough force at any one point to
crack it, unless White wants to sacrifice even more material than the
two pawns thus far. In the endgame, Black will win due to a Queenside
pawn majority + the King being significantly closer to the center of
the board.

I have deliberately played for just this type of defensive position,
with long-term focus on winning in the ending once enough pieces are
exchanged off for Black's mobility to be restored.

It is just a matter of time...and technique for Black to achieve the
win. Good luck finding a combination to sabotage the Black plan.
Frankly, I can hardly believe it might even be possible for you to
achieve such a result.

If another sacrifice warrants a win for White, why not? Try and grab
my third pawn on e5 and see what happens.

It's true that Black has a Queenside pawn majority, however, they're
unguarded and soon will be gobbled up.

LOL! The Black king is in the center all right, but way on the edge.
Marching towards the heartland is suicide.

Good luck finding a combination to sabotage the Black plan.

Frankly, I can hardly believe it might even be possible for you to

As I said earlier, there's no mate, but White will definitely get
compensation for the two pawns or three if you decide to take one
more.
