from a lost game is a personal choice. Even if I were losing, so long

I would fight on. ....

This is a good attitude for OTB players as well

I am an OTB player. I play quite often casually, mostly against
officially inactive players, sometimes intensely, and sometimes during
socializing, almost always while giving odds. So far this year, I
have played 69 such games (all are fully notated and dated). For
reasons connected with the following, I don't play in rated OTB
events:

I. The Presence of Time Clocks
a. Honourable men don't need to have their use of time during a game
supervised.
b. Chess can be both profound and sublime - for this to happen, it is
necessary that all the conditions for artistic creation be present.
Many compelling games have been marred by the extraneous factor of
time pressure.

II. Noise and Distraction
a. Without being a misanthrope, I am greatly adverse to large
assemblies of people. I understand that others don't share this
reaction. I am a pianist, and I prefer not to have the pressure on
when I am not performing.
b. The tendency of other competitors to scrutinize the boards of games
in progress, from a distance of a few feet, is immensely distracting.
Chess is extremely hard mental work, and (for me) slight distractions
can cause serious trouble - especially when the use of a time clock
would discourage me from simply leaving the board or tournament room
until the period of distraction had ended. The worry of being
distracted, eventually becomes the primary source of distraction.

III. The Annotational Restriction
a. My memory for chess is definitely not as good as it whas 5-10 years
ago, so these days, when a game is in progress, I make miniscule notes
for reference after the game is over. In title games, this practice
shouldn't be allowed, as those games occur within the context of a
spectator (public) event, and the effect on the public's reaction has
to be allowed. But in non-title games, note taking for one's records
should be allowed - for instance if an opponent's move is "Qe7", and
one writes: "Qe7? (Qf6!)", or, "Qe7 (18. ... Qf6, 19.Bxe5 Nxe5 20.Nxe5
Qxf2+)", I don't see the problem with that.

IV.The Odds Restriction
a.To judiciously decide to give an opponent odds during a rated event,
would not be allowed.

I am experimenting with correspondence chess, with a view to joining
the ICCF, and participating in ICCF correspondence tournaments. There
are probably some practical lessons I ought first to learn, before
entering the first official tournament - hence these rgcc games.

Wait . . . you can make your opponent resign in correspondance games? If
so, I have a couple going that I'd like to wrap up. If not, isn't that
harassment? If black has a winning advantage in the Sicilian game, I wish
someone would point it out to me.

Goran Fischer has the right to make a game report if his opponent resigned
in disgrace. Michael Sayers ran away without notifying his opponent. That's
the most dastardly act to do in a correspondence chess. If you check Sayer's
website where he posted the games, it's now gone too.

GF might have a better explanation of the Sicilian-Najdorf. Let's wait and
see...

OK, I see - an unreasonable amount of time has elapsed. Fair enough. Mr.
Sayers will have a hard time getting another game under that name with
anyone who reads this forum.
