You don't happen to know how the illegal move came about, do you? It's a game that you won't find in any chess databases because the moves can't be keyed in. Heidenfield castled k-side, then moved his king back to e1. Much later in the game he castled q-side. He still managed to lose. That much I can see from the game score, which is why I was asking about the circumstances of the game. I cut and pasted the game into xboard and it's interesting that it didn't complain about the illegal move. .... The player castled using a stolen rook from a neighboring board! .... That reminds me of an incident at the WBCA Blitz one year at the National Open, where I was a floor TD. A player started to move a rook, but it flew out of his hand, landing on the floor several feet away. His other rook had been captured, so he simply picked it up from beside the board and moved it to the square he had originally intended. His opponent objected, claiming he had to retrieve the original rook from the floor, on his own clock time! I ruled in favor of the first player. Bill Smythe |
