There were no leather care instructions, the squares are individual
and assembled together, it looks like to me, judging by the grain. With other leather products (all of which are oil tanned), I have used minute amounts of saddle soap and and neatsfoot oil. But I have been told that neatsfoot would be proper only for oil tanned leather, not chromium tanned leather. Judging by the slightly oily aroma, this board seems to be oil tanned. But most leather nowadays is not, because there is an easier and cheaper process using chromium salts, or so I've been told. |

Chess pieces set: House of Staunton Collector series, 3" king (i.e. the library size), rosewood. $199 US plus post and packing. Just out of curiousity, since you indicate you bought this set via Ebay, was it brand new, exactly as if you ordered from House of Stanton itself?I'd love to buy one of these sets, but I'm curious if they might go a bit cheaper,at least occasionally,on Ebay.Conrats on your new set. I can't answer for his purchase, but I can tell you that Frank from House Of Staunton sells on Ebay. He usually has a minimum bid that is a decent amount below the list price on his home web site. I bought a few of the HOS sets this way before becoming a direct customer with HOS. The EBAY sets are brand new (from HOS). Ken |

Thanks Ken.I checked it out,and he seems to have a lot of sets for sale there, most of which have 'buy it now' prices slightly below the normal prices. This looks like the way to go once I finally talk myself into shelling out for one of these beauties. |

Our Master Leather Worker will begin handcrafting the board almost at once, and will have it ready for delivery in two weeks". Thanks again for the advice, these boards were unknown to me and seem excellent. Hatfield (W. H. K.) Not to worry you, but for the last two days I have been unable to pull up the finechess website. I bought mine over a year ago and others I've recommended it to have had no problems. However, at least for now the websiter seems down. I hope your order arrives to your satisfaction. Ken They moved to USA. I expect them to set up again in the US, making boards in NZ, and a new site should follow? At least no word on closing up shop for good. |
