The suggestion of Preston Ware is a good one, but will have to wait until I can
get copies of the books of the relevant American Congresses. In the meanwhile, I did a little research on the player James Mortimer, whose life was somewhat more public than Ware's (except perhaps for Ware's brief notoriety in 1880); a brief piece on Mortimer will appear in my next post.
