July 26, 2004 Reported by The Associated Press St. Tammany Parish sheriff's deputies say an argument over a game of chess ended with a fight in which one player rammed the other's head through a plate-glass window. Sheriff's department spokesman James Hartman says 34-year-old Robert Talley was booked with second-degree battery against 42-year-old Robert Henderson. Deputies described Henderson's cuts as serious. Hartman says he was released after treatment at Northshore Regional Medical Center. The fight occurred about 1 a.m. Sunday at Talley's house, which is about five miles from Henderson's. Hartman says Talley was released on bond. |

Stan, also greater players can get violent. Amsterdam, 1950: Reshevsky, that
tiny guy (I dont know if you have ever seen him, but he was really small size), punched Najdorf in the eye. Hans J. It is these dang unrated players that give a black eye to chess. |

Najdorf was the winner of that tournament way back in 1950, and without any
losses. Reshevsky was number two, also with no losses. One reason for Najdorf's winning the tournament was that Reshevsky had to concede a draw to an italian by the name of Szabados who finished in shared last place - but Reshevsky found out that Najdorf had helped Szabados analyzing the position when the game was broken off (is this the correct english description?) and then he got really ****ed off. Here is the game: (67961) Szabados,E - Reshevsky,S [D77] Amsterdam Amsterdam (17), 1950 [Ftacnik] 1.d4 Sf6 2.Sf3 g6 3.g3 Lg7 4.c4 d5 5.Lg2 0-0 6.0-0 dxc4 7.Sa3 c3!? 8.bxc3 c5 9.Lb2 Sc6 10.Dd2?! There are two things about this story that makes me wonder, though:
It was the italian, Szabados, who was playing for a win, being a pawn up in the endgame. And: Najdorf too drew with Szabados. Hans J. "zdrakec" skrev i en meddelelse m... Details, please?
