writes (NoMoreChess) wrote in message news:200407290 ... . One of the main reasons I like and respect my Commander In Chief so much is because -- although he doesn't always come off as the smartest guy in speeches -- he does what's right, is a man of action and not words, and told the bleeding heart, pussified countries of the world who were against us going into Iraq to go **** themselves. My two cents. Regards, Matt Nominated for a brewski! Those of us who are civilians don't have a Commander in Chief. We don't have to take military orders or stand up for orders we don't respect. Trying to run someone else's country when you can't run your own is foolish. From an anti-ruler point of view, I would caution against the criticism that oppressive acts or policies by the rulers are 'foolish'. Sometimes they are, of course. Sometimes, though, they aren't, but nonetheless get called this by some of us who oppose them. This can obscure the way the rulers deliberately engineer events and control large-scale developments. (One current example is the way that a few junior science journalists who think they're really cool, are saying the UK government's ID card policy is really stupid and won't work. There are elements of a contradiction between effectiveness and corruption, but with something so important it's not as if those who steer things from the very top aren't aware of this). Note that Fischer was on the way to give a radio interview in the Phillippines when he was captured. He is certainly right that "there's a real possibility" that the US 'passport revokation' letter was cooked up after the CIA learnt he'd bought his ticket. He is also right to pose the question "What world are you living in?" to people who think "that can't happen". -- banana "The thing I hate about you, Rowntree, is the way you give Coca-Cola to your scum, and your best teddy-bear to Oxfam, and expect us to lick your frigid fingers for the rest of your frigid life." Is it some kind of university where people unacquanted with american ways can study american and international law, the bill of rights, the christian/american concept of freedom as opposed to the islamic? Or is it, as some maintain, a concentration camp just like the ones they had in Nazi-Germany and in stalinist Soviet Union? Hans J. Lassen It is a military base. My sister's husband has been there. Military law is different from civil law. Not trying to be pedantic, but for the record, I thought it was a naval base. -- banana "The thing I hate about you, Rowntree, is the way you give Coca-Cola to your scum, and your best teddy-bear to Oxfam, and expect us to lick your frigid fingers for the rest of your frigid life." om... Trying to seem competent, when in fact one is incompetent, is foolish. Someone should have asked his smart Daddy's advice, why Daddy didn't have the army march into Baghdad when he had the chance. David Ames Of course, this is only your opinion and pure conjecture, but hey -- bash away. You people seem good at that. Regards, Matt |

"Hans Jørgen Lassen" wrote in message . .. Stan, were all these guys at Guantanamo soldiers in Bin Laden's army? Has it been proved that just one of them engaged in terrorist activities? Has it been proved that all and each of them did? No. Has it been proved that they haven't? Are you saying Bin Laden's boys were based in Denmark and not Afghanistan? Do you really mean to say that we rounded up a bunch of civilians who were walking down the wrong side of the street and now we are keeping them locked up for the hell of it? I'll tell you what, you agree to give them a job and a place to stay and I'll ask Pres. Bush to send them to Denmark. |

It used to be a principle of justice, also in the US, that people are
innocent until their guilt has been proved. You (and your government) now seem to prefer the opposite principle: that people are assumed guilty, until they have proved they are not. I would not call that change progress; its returning to medieval practices. And even on these medieval principles they ought to get a chance to prove their innocence. It seems to me that law and order has been suspended. If you had happened to be in Afghanistan at the time, you would risk being sent to Guantanamo, guilty or not guilty, that wouldnt matter. Do you find that acceptable? Your religious faith in your government and army is somewhat naive, I think. Do you also find torturing and humiliating prisoners quite all right? These guys just got what they deserved? Or what? Hans J. "StanB" skrev i en meddelelse ... "Hans Jørgen Lassen" wrote in message . .. What war was declared???!!!!
Er.....lessee....they tried to destroy the Pentagon for one, they killed over a thousand or more people for two.....and you ask what war....Look, I'll make it real simple. It is a war on terrorisim. And I don't give a rat's ass what some fools think on here....."WE", the US, is not going to put up with that crap. "Chess One" wrote in message news:Yg5Oc.5207$NV3.4009@trndny01... I was not aware that any of the guests of the US government at Guantanamo were caught in the US. Neither was I aware that any of them had been involved in terrorist activities in the US. If there is proof that these guys are terrorists, why are they not put on trial? If the prisoners are being held for no legal reason (and that seems to be the case, as they are not being prosecuted), then Guantanomo is a concentration camp. Hans J. Negative, ghost-writer. They are POWs. Not actually POWs under the Geneva convention, Matt. What war was declared? The US Consitution says that only the Congress can declare a war. How many internees are at Guantanamo as the result of a declared war? How many are there otherwise? Is Fischer a war criminal? Or didn't he pay his tax bill? I'm confused. Phil Regards, Matt |

I thought all of the terrorist that tried to destroy the Pentagon died in
the crash? Of course they may have had helpers. Has it been proved that there are any serious links between all those prisoners held at Guantanamo and the terrorists of september 11th? Or do these guys just look suspicious, with a big beard and a mysterious complexion, unamerican clothing and so on, so we better lock them up, just in case?
