Bogo-Indian Defense: Black Bishop Bound
1 d4 Nf6 2 c4 e6 3 Nf3 Bb4+:
A dual-purpose move. Black ensures rapid kingside
castling and likely e4 domination. If the b1 knight
jumps to c3/d2, it's then unable to challenge f6 on
e4. If the c1 bishop covers e1, Black is still solid
on e4...

Has Checkers Been Solved? by
samsloan
It has been published that checkers has been solved. See:
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/317/5844/1518
However, I am hearing that checkers has not been solved at all. Only
free-style checkers has been solved. Tournament style checkers where
there is a drawing to determine the first three moves is still an
actively contested game.
Which is true? Does anybody know?

Cunning Chess Players Win!
Are you hopelessly straightforward and trustful? We, the subtle,
convoluted, and bold players of the Exposition Park Chess Club very greatly desire the attendance of wily
chess players.
This coming first Sunday of the month, April 6th, 2008, will be
the occasion of a free, unrated, open, three-round chess tournament.
Cash prizes will *NOT* be awarded, but...

Magnus Carlsen by
EZoto
Chessbase website has Carlsen 5th in the world and in the under 20 he
is number 1. However they show as if Sergey Karjakin and the other
players are close or even equal with Magnus. I don't see it at all.
Magnus as number 1 under 20 is clearly a huge separation from the rest
of the field in this ladder.

d4 the only way to make black give up his e5? by
Albert
In Reuben Fine's 'The Ideas Behind Chess Openings' page 7 he wrote:
'OPENINGS WITH 1 P-K4, P-K4
Both White's and Black's initial moves are perfectly natural and
normal: both assist development and affect vital central squares.
As long as Black can retain symmetry, White can lay no claim to an
advantage. Consequently the task is to compel the defender to give up
his strong center positions, in...

Mitchell vs Sloan 2008 by
Rob
Here is the recent loss Sloan suffered. Jerry Nash of the USCF
officiated the match. It was a single game, no time limit. Mitchell
drew white and began the game. Sloan defended with black.
At the end of the game Nash presented Mitchell with a cashiers check
in the amount of 10k.

Fun Educational Games for Your Kids.(download games) by

download games,
There are many games out there for kids, including board games, video
games, and computer games. It is very easy to just go out and purchase
games for your kids; however, you should be taking the time to focus
on how educational the games you buy will be for your children. No
doubt your kids love having fun, but incorporating education with...

Murray's comprehension test by
Chess One[_2_]
This is what I wrote to prosecutor Murray, and what he snipped 2 parts of
1) Look at the name of the thread - d4 the only way ... snort
2) Daft isn't it?
3) If I misrepresented Spassky's use of the KG, where?
I really would rather talk the chess, not Murray's rendition of what I said
which he is not brave enough to actually mention, and also cannot contest.
He snipped it!

A Diabolical KID by
Chess One[_2_]
I like to trace origins in the development of openings in my column, and
started this one last week - noting the emergence of the opening, until Euwe
squashed it flat in the 1930s - then Bondarevsky picked it up again after
WWII.
What to Play? When the KID was really young. Continued from last week. Moves
and commentary draw on The King Hunt in Chess, W. H. Cozens. 1970.

Some people have found Bobby' laptop and started going through his

They found some old e-mails he sent. It turns out he was giving
advice to Korchnoi, Kasparov, and even Topalov. He came up with that
Nxf7 novelty that Topalov played against Kramnik:
