Paul Truong from Sept 1986 Chess Life, page 26 by samsloan
PAUL TRUONG: Happy To Be A USCF Member BY RANDALL HOUGH Assistant Editor, Chess Life Paul Truong is a survivor. And although he would like to say that his love for chess helped to sustain him during two hellish weeks in early 1979 aboard a crowded, leaky, wooden refugee boat -- it would be untrue.

Anonymous Postings to Polgar's Blog by samsloan
Susan Polgar's Blogspot is filled with postings that are quite funny when you think about it, because most of the posters wax on about how much they support Polgar and how strongly they stand behind her. (Of course, It is widely suspected that most of the postings to Polgar's blog are written by Troung, in view of Susan's limited knowledge of English, but that is another subject.) What is funny...

Polgar Pattern of Attacks by samsloan
Many people think that Polgar just started attacking the board when I got on it and that the attacks will stop if I am defeated. This article was just the latest in a long string of attacks by Susan Polgar on the Executive Board or on individual board members going back to 2003. She has constantly railed against "dirty chess politicians". Do not think that you will be immune from these attacks....

Team Polgar by samsloan
Very well put. The real question is whether her campaign theme, that only Team Polgar can save us all from these terrible, horrible people, will win her votes or cost her votes. The Polgar blogspot reminds one of the fictional cartoon Team Rocket. Team Rocket has a slogan, which they always recite, just as our George here recites much the same thing:

A correction by Wlodzimierz Holsztynski (Wlod)
I apologize to all of you, and to my friend from the past, W.J.H., for messing up his last name, I feel so embarrassed. I've written: "IM Ed Furmanek solved, together with a coauthor, Mumford Conjecture in algebra, independently and only slighly after W. Habbush (who got a complete result)." The correct spelling of W.J.H.'s name is:

Polgar/Truong In Perspective by samsloan
Susan did not win any scholastic world championships. She probably was the best player in the world for her age, but she refused to play in women's and girls tournaments and Hungary insisted on sending a boy to boy's tournaments, so she was denied opportunities to compete. Sam Sloan

How to learn by Willie K. Yee, MD
I am a relative newbie, and trying to figuree the best way to wrap my brain around this game. i have books, programs, and I play online whenever I can, making sure to somehow play at least one game a day. I don't know a lot of standard openings, and I am prone to game-losing blunders. I know the rules, and principles of strateg, e.g., pawn structure, forks, etc. I have a real hard time...

WCC tournament. by EZoto
Once these candidates matches are over I cannot see this WCC tournament in Mexico crown a legit champion. Candidates matches as can be seen clearly here produce the legitimate world champion. I wish the tournament in Mexico could be turned into a candidates tournament. EZoto

Move Counter by SpamMaster
I run chess tournaments for kids and was wondering if anyone knows where I could find a move counter. Every once in a while two kids are playing and it looks like the game will not end. No progress has been made for a few moves and I am not sure if they will be able to finish the game on their own. I would like to pop a small unit in front of them and set it to a certain number of moves. Every...

Hoainhan "Paul" Truong and the Last Helicopter out of Vietnam by samsloan
Hoainhan "Paul" Truong is running as a candidate for election to the Executive Board of the United States Chess Federation. He has made all kinds of fantastic claims about himself and his business background. He claims that he has been hired by billion dollar companies to save them, and he has done so. However, he has never provided any verifiable information about these claims, such as the names...

Susan Polgar dyes her hair blond !!!!! by samsloan
Susan Polgar has black hair. She dyes it blond. This of course pertains directly to my article here a few days ago about why Cavegirl Blonds have More Fun. Did anybody here know that her hair is really black? Does anybody care? Is this a valid campaign issue?

Everybody Wants Lux but Susan by samsloan
This is a song to be played on a steel guitar to the music of I can't remember which song. It goes like this: Everybody Wants Lux Everybody Wants Lux Everybody Wants Lux but Susan It is a fact that every campaign letter or endorsement letter that has gone out thus far has endorsed Joe Lux for the USCF Executive Board.
