how chess book can mess with mind by

I found it very useful to play against
stronger players, losing again and again
until finally, one day they started getting
frustrated that their cheap shots were no
longer doing the trick; that's when they
had to hunker down and play REAL
chess! Slowly, but...

Anti-Semitism on FICS (Free Internet Chess Server) by
Israel Silverman
On the internet, no one knows if you're a dog.
But some people care if you are Jewish. And anti-semitism is alive and well,
in places you'd hardly expect to find it.
I play chess on various online services. There is ICS, the internet chess
club. There is also a free internet chess server, called FICS. FICS has
always been a nice place to visit, play a few games. The administration
prides...

Alternative time clock scheme by
Guy Macon
I am not saying this is a good idea as it stands,
but rather I am throwing it out there as a thought
experiment to see if someone comes up with a better
variation.
For comparison, let's start with a 40/120, D/60 time
control with a USCF-Style delay of 5 seconds.
Replace the USCF-style the delay with a Fischer increment
(meaning 5 seconds are added to your clock when you hit

Has there even been a chess game that has been played twice ? by
SAT W-7
Has there ever been a chess game that has had the exact same
moves ever been recorded ?
Understand that question ?
Lets say two players play a 47 move game or 50 move or 36 move game ,
has that game ever been played by two other people ?
In all the recorded games that you have in a computer data basse has
there ever been two games with the same moves for the whole game?

Beware of Rob ("The Robber") Mitchell by
samsloan
I am posting this here just to warn the occasional passers-by to
ignore the postings by Rob ("The Robber") Mitchell.
Rob (The Robber") Mitchell is not a chess player. He has never played
a rated game. He is not a member of the USCF. He really has no
connection with chess.
He joined the USCF for just one year in 2004. That was just so that he
could apply for a job with the USCF. He applied first...

Why Fischer dropped his bishop? by
Freelancer71
Can anyone explain how/why Fischer lost is bishop in the first game of his
match against Spassky in 1972?
The fact that a bishop capturing the h2 or a2 pawn and getting trapped after
g3 or b3 is trivial. Everyone knows that. Did he really think he had chances
after sacrificing the bishop for two (or three?) pawns?

Appart from that site, where should I play online for free? Is it worth
it to suscribe to a paying site and which? And, lastly, if I want to
improve fast, where shoul I spend my time? (Books, Chessmaster, Fritz...

The new Leapfrog pawn by
M Winther
The new pawn functions like a regular pawn except that it can
leap over any man in its initial two-step move. En-passant is not
allowed if a pawn has made a jump. Otherwise this variant is like
regular chess. This minimal rule change creates many new
possibilities in opening and middle game. You can delay the
movement of the c- and f-pawn by placing a knight before it. A
knight pawn can now...
