Happiness in Nolanland: Another Polgar Thread is Deleted. by samsloan
I will give a few examples of the problem we have here. On February 22, 2006, Susan Polgar started a thread entitled "Polgar Letter to the Board". In it, she attacked the board which had just APPROVED her proposal made two days earlier. At that time, I was not yet a member of the board, so her attack on the board had nothing to do with me. Here is her first letter of attack: This letter evoked...

teaching chess to small children by Beliavsky
I am a chess master (NOT GM Beliavsky) and play often at the Internet Chess Club, and my son, 3.5 years old, wants to learn, having watched me play. Are there any books recommended for small children? I am thinking of first teaching how to mate with K+Q vs K, then K+R vs. K, but I don't know if my son will grasp the concept of "checkmate".

Why end game not so Well? by Sanny
GetClub Chess always beat me and my friends in Opening & Middle Games. Even after Advantages in middle game, When End Game comes it is unable to play well. Why it is unable to play well in End Game. When it has extra Rook it is unable to CheckMate. It keeps on playing Check moves and unable to do the Check Mate. since all moves looks equal to it.

"Rob" by invalid@example.org
"Rob" wrote: What you have posted does not demonstrate that Phil is anti anything. Odd, isn't it, the way this "Rob" only posts when defending Phil Innes? It's almost as if Phil himself got a Google Groups account and pretends to be "Rob." The "two" of them write with the same style, exhibit the same lack of knowledge in the same areas, and never, ever disagree. None of this is proof, of...

Ultima Chess Set by Ian Burton
I wanted to get my grandson a chess set for Christmas. The set I wanted was called Ultima a few years back, but I can find no trace of such a set on the web today. It was plastic, but triple-weighted, and had the feel and heft of a more expensive set. I belive its cost was in the $25-$30 range. Has anyone here any information on the Ultima set? Is there an equivalent? -- Ian...

machines, engines, automata, Turing by Wlodzimierz Holsztynski (Wlod)
Both a car and a bicycle provide an example of a machine. There is a difference between them: a car has a component, called "engine", which accepts non-kinetic energy from a not animated source, i.e. not from humans nor from animals, and it turns it into kinetic energy. Now you understand the diff (Tom Wachtel's abbr of "difference") between a machine and an engine, at least in the regular...

what do the chess playing public want? by a_gudger@hotmail.com
I am currently producing a 3D version of online chess, prime examples of popular 2D chess games would be yahoo games and hotmail and also the specific online chess sites. I am interested in current player's opinions on the feasibility of a 3D version of these existing chess games. If a 3D version of the game was available on the internet what would players of the 2D games like to see included...

GetClub Wins! Defeats strongest player of them all! by help bot
Well, it was bound to happen; GetClub has finally beaten me, fair and square. I admit it. I was playing another Sicilian Defense, and winning as always, when all of a sudden I was slapped by an unexpected tactical threat, which I completely overlooked. I had of course been lulled to sleep by the fact that I was winning, and had merely to continue improving the positions of my *more numerous*...
