Tournament system by
TomAlciere@TomAlciere.com
If there is no name for this already, call it the Tom Alciere system.
Players are paired purely at random,
Each round, pairing is done anew.
They play a number of rounds. If there are an odd number of players,
one person sits out each round.
After, say, 10 rounds, anybody with a score less than 50% is

chess variants & why no variants newsgroup by
Fred Lucite
For any fans of chess variants out there, I just posted some
items on the subject on the newsgroup alt.ascii-art.
On another subject, last year at one point a bit of the usual
anti-chess variants hysteria broke out here on this base. Then
somebody asked why there is no such thing as a rec.games.chess.
variants newsgroup here on the Usenet. I didn't then have time to
answer that, but here's...

Recommendations for teaching kids? (No Stress Chess?) by
Richard
Hi all. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best way to teach
kids (ages 5 and 7 in this case) chess?
Just to complicate matters, they're my nephews, and I don't live
anywhere near them. I've taught them the basics in the past, and they
seem interested in continuing, but I only see them maybe twice a year
for a few of days at a time, so I can't really play with them
regularly. My sister...

USCF financial records by
TomAlciere@TomAlciere.com
Banks are required to microfilm checks as they come in, so much of the
financial records can be reconstructed, not just check numbers and
amounts.

MESSAGE FROM JERRY HANKEN
This is a public note to Eric Johnson. I too am bored out of my mind
with
this non issue. The picture was taken by Paul, not disputed at all by
anyone,
then he sent it to Sam,as he had other Susan pictures umpteen times in
the last
couple of years, and Sam put it up on his website as he had many

So who needs USCF ? by
TomAlciere@TomAlciere.com
Chess is in the public domain, unlike Monopoly, which is a registered
trademark.
You don't need USCF to play chess. There's no reason why a tournament
has to be part of the FIDE/USCF/State chess association hierarchy to be
a chess tournament.
I think it sucks that they charge entry fees and offer prizes, beyond
perhaps a trophy. Play for the trophy, and if sponsors are not found,
charge entry...

"Destroyed" records miraculously found by
Taylor Kingston
An interesting chronology of events:
"Virtually All USCF Financial Records have been Destroyed." -- Sam
Sloan, 19 August 2006, 7:17 AM
"Sunshine Sam is already worth his weight in gold as a Board member.
Go get 'em, Sam!!" -- R.S. Hass, 19 Aug 2006, 8:53 AM
"You mean you actually *_believe_* Sloan about this? I don't know if
it's true or not, but believing it just on Sloan's say-so seems

Sam Sloan has dropped out from the race!! by
Andrew Zito
Knowing that he has no chance to win, Sam Sloan has decided to drop out
of the USCF EB race. He has given his full endorsement to Grant P.,
Ernie S. and Randy H. This is the first wise move that Sloan has ever
made in his life. This also proves that chess players shouldn't do
drugs.

chess or variant? by
TomAlciere@TomAlciere.com
Thousands of years ago, Homo sapiens neandethalensis coexisted with
Homo sapiens sapiens.
It is irrelevant now, whether Neandertals were humans because there are
none left. Likewise, with the different games that came along during
the evolution of chess.
Those games may have been chess in their time, but they have died out.
Chess cannot be changed anymore. Nobody has any authority to change how

Bobby Fischer has been reinstated in the USCF by
marcus@stkittsnevischess.org
I think that Sam Sloan is going to have a problem with the legal
authroities. I am informing every scholastic tournament organizer,
parent, and school of this behavior. I intend to spend up to 50,000
dollars to destroy the reputation of the USCF.
Mr. Sloan is a traitor to the United States. The USCF is run by crooks.
I will do everything in my power to hurt Chess becasue the USCF is run

Phil Innes Plays Poker by
Taylor Kingston
THE POKER GAME
An Allegory
In a poker parlor, a group of men, including Phil Innes and Taylor
Kingston, sit around a green felt table. The game is 5-card draw, jacks
or better to open. After the deal, Kingston opens. Innes raises. The
other players fold, except for Kingston, who calls. Kingston takes one
card, Innes stands pat. As the last one to raise, it is now Innes' turn
to bet:

Return of the Mating Bug by
help bot
Sanny, your program's bug -- the one where it thinks it can move
twice-in-a-row -- is back.
I was playing the Easy level, I believe, and after some careless
errors on my part where in fact I tried to speed up my play to nearly
match the computer's much faster speed (while also jumping
back and forth from my other browser window), I was shocked
to see that, not only was I down material, but the...

Virtually All USCF Financial Records have been Destroyed by
jr
"I can't tell Sam what to do, but I want to make it clear that he
as an individual does not represent or speak for the Federation.
Only the Board and the Delegates speak for the Federation.
Furthermore, disclosure of the subject of closed sessions is a
serious offence. As far as I am concerned, Sam has behaved
most irresponsibly. The proper thing to do, as I pointed out in
the meeting, would have...
