Medieval Chess book by
Scott Tortorice
Greetings,
In one of the older Chessmaster programs (8000?), there was a brief
introduction to the history of chess. I recall that in this history, it
mentioned how chess was frowned upon by the Catholic Church because some of
the clergy thought it was proving to be too much of a distraction to praying
and worship (I can sympathize). :-) This all changed, however, once a
certain monk...

Help with problem by
raggio
http://www.usscholasticchess.org/
There is a problem on thi page that reads "white to play and win". I
am a beginner for the most part and can't solve it. I suspect it's a
move with the knight, maybe kf5, but can't be sure. I have no interest
to enter the contest. I just want to learn.
Thanks,
John

Can someone show me where on the USchess.org by
Chris
Can someone show me where on the uschess.org website it provides the
benefits of chesshall.com when you sign up for a USCF membership? For
example you get 10 games per day for free. I don't know if rated games are
included. That's what I'm trying to find out.
This is a perfect example of what is wrong with the USCF. They can't even
market properly. To be honest they should all be fired...

Time to BAN OTB scholastic chess (too many pedos) by
Sam Sloan
Ray Gordon, creator of the "pivot" wrote:
Hold the scholastic stuff online, and let the kids play that way.
This latest round of criminal behavior should be all anyone needs to put a
stop to this.
Perhaps Mr. Sloan can lead the way, given his unique understanding of how to
combat illegal pedophilia.

Brattleboro, Vermont by
parrthenon@cs.com
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE INNES PLEDGE?
You may recall that Brattleboro was suggested, by the Bedlam, as a
better choice for USCF headquaters than Crossville. Since Crossville
often has been ridiculed, I figured Brattleboro should be more closely
examined. Also, the Bedlam has frequently posed as the Great Moralist
of US Chess; let's hear him discourse on the homeless camps and other
problems of his...

Correspondence Chinese Chess website (in English) by

So, I wrote my own, and I thought others might be interested...

A Game of Check (long) by
chipschap@gmail.com
Has anyone ever seen this story? It is supposed to be based somewhat
on a real life event, at least according to the web site.
A Game of .... Check?
In a much earlier day, being still of middle age and having more energy
to spare, both mental and physical, one of my amusements was to play in
chess tournaments... not at a very advanced level, to be sure, but in
the more modest ranks of...

Chess Puzzles for the Casual Player by
aachess@yahoo.com
I'm writing a chess puzzle book (due out by the end of September 2006)
based on my games. The book illustrates almost every move, so a chess
board is not require to read it. If anyone is interested in seeing
sample puzzles from the book you can view them at

How to promote chess better by
TomAlciere@TomAlciere.com
We are smart people.
We don't exchange a rook for a knight if we can help it, unless it's
part of an attack we hope will produce checkmate or something.
Morons gamble. They'll pay $100 for a 1-in-38 chance of winning $3500.
But that's where the money is. They insist on being stupid. They vote
stupid, and unjust laws get imposed on us, and now it's payback time.
