Keene reviews Kingston (part 1) by
parrthenon@cs.com
GM KEENE REVIEWS THE REVIEWER
Before the Duras-Teichmann fracas I dimly felt that I had
heard of Taylor Kingston somewhere. Then it occurred to me where he has
swum into my ken.
He reviewed the algebraic version of my book "Aron Nimzowitsch a
Reappraisal" published by Batsford in 1999 after two earlier editions
of 1974 and 1991. I had forgotten this but then it popped back into my
mind.The...

Mig in NiC by
Lev Khariton
Quote from www.chessbase.com :
"...now the Dutch chess magazine New in Chess, in a desperate search
for new material, asked ChessBase columnist Mig to fill out their last
page questionnaire".
New In Chess is really desperate. They could not have found anyone
better than Mig for the job! Congratulations! But would not they be
desperate even more?

Chessboard too big? by
Mats Winther
We humans focus most of our attention to the centre of the visual field.
What is going on in the periphery of the visual field is automatically
sorted out by the brain (so it's not as simple that the vision is inferior
there). This sorting out of information, and reduction of the brain's
attention, increases the farther away you go from the centre.
Would chess be less affected by blunders if the...

How Kirsan Cheated by
parrthenon@cs.com
WHAT YOU WON'T HEAR FROM OUR FIDE "TEAM"
The FIDE Congress in Turin is over. Votes for
Kirsan routinely cost about two to three thousand
dollars each. Payments were made half in cashbeforehand
and half in cash after voting.
Our "team" members will tell you the ballot was
secret, which is true.

Early "Hoyle's Games" ? by
richardfkennedy@hotmail.com
I noticed the other day that the 1914 edition of "Hoyle's Games" had a
section on chess, a subsection on chess openings, and a reference to
the Jerome Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.Bxf7+) as one of the
ordinary openings of the time. This brought a smile to my face,
remembering that Schiller and Watson's recent book on how to defeat
certain "annoying" chess openings had some analysis on...

PROPOSED ADDENDUM to the CHINESE CHESS FOR BEGINNERS
Since the first printing of this book in 1989, there have been changes
in the World of Chinese chess. The most obvious is the development and
the expansion of the Internet. Every major Chinese chess organization
now has a website. Most are in Chinese but some are in English. The
World Chinese Chess Federation, or...

June 2006 Chess Life really sucks by
abc123
I just received mine today and it contains font sizes much too small to
read. Also where is the correspondence chess coverage? That's my only
interest, the only thing I read (Alex Dunne), except sometimes Larry Evans -
now both are absent. This new rag has nothing of interest for me.
So, how do we cancel this bogus new Chess Life editor? From what I've seen,
the new USCF Exec Director is...

Stop picking on Beatriz Marinello by
Andrew Zito
Stop making fun of her because she's a dyke. Stop making fun of her
because she's politically ambitious. She knows how to make the best
deals for herself. What's wrong with that? Is it a crime to screw
people along the way to achieve your ambition? Bill Clinton did it. So
did many other politicians and they're good at it. So stop making fun
of this nice lady.

June Chess Life is Fabulous by

June Chess Life is Fabulous
I just received the June Chess Life this morning. It is great. The
magazine has been completely reformatted. There is a great picture of
Onischuk on the cover, but better yet is a greater picture of Jennifer
Shahade on the inside cover.
You would think that Jennifer is the cover girl for Vogue Magazine.
You would never imagine that she plays chess too. A fantastic...
