Hugh Myers did it! by
Sam Sloan
Hugh Myers did it!
There is a person who keeps attacking me, every day, day after day, in
every forum of which he is a member with a repetitiveness exceeded
only by Bill Brock. He keeps calling me a liar at every opportunity
and is causing a lot of problems for me and other members of these
forums.
Mr. Jomp has called me a liar 42 times in the last 21 days, or an
average of twice a day, on rgcp...

of Mr Louis Blair... by
parrthenon@cs.com
LOOK WHO'S TALKING!
If Cerebus will carefully examine the newsgroup record
via Google or some such search engine, he will find that
Blair asks "the same questions again and again" only when
the person asked gives no satifactory answer, or no answer
at all. Notorious repeat offenders would be Parr and Innes, who
virtually never answer "inconvenient" questions. -- Taylor Kingston

selling chess books? by
googlekreider204@spamex.com
Hi. I occasionally post chess books on ebay. Would it be okay if I
were to post a link here? I don't want to be obnoxious, but I thought
some of you might be interested, so I thought I'd ask first.
Thanks!

If Parr were editor.... by
parrthenon@cs.com
WHAT WOULD PARR DO?
It would be interesting to see what Larry Parr, former CL
editor and a good one, would have to say about this
exchange. I know that he is confident that Evans would do
well if a scientific survey were to be conducted, and that
scrapping his column is a mistake. But I would not guess
he'd support the general principle of making editorial decisions
about the content of CL by...

Olympiad round 9 report: just two teams left in the field by
OlimpBase
It seems that no human power can stop the Armenians as they beat Ukraine
today in a match that symbolically passed the baton to the possible future
gold medal winners. Russia are now full three points behind as they lost to
accelerating France. China moved to second scoring unbelievable 4-0 vs
Georgia. (...)

Proof that Sloan is better than Shahade by
Sam Sloan
I thought that would grab your attention.
Actually, I just located a newspaper clipping from the New York Times
which has the game where I defeated Michael Shahade in the 1969 US
Amateur Championship.
The clipping is at

This was before Greg and Jennifer Shahade were even born, so do not

Brock's True Confessions by
parrthenon@cs.com
BILL BROCK'S TRUE CONFESSIONS
Let's discuss what Bill Brock (politikalhack) wrote.
On March 4, 2006, Mr. Brock posted a response to Phil
Innes in what may be termed his True Confessions
letter, though in the absence of proof, we do not hold
Mr. Brock to the import of what he pounded out so
furiously on his keyboard any more than we hold Sam
Sloan to the import of what he posted.

Cleaning old wooden chess set by
Wylie Wilde
Hello,
I have an old wooden chess set (circa 1940s?). I think its made out of pine
or boxwood. It came with a small chess rule book done by W.B. Tattersall.
Ltd.
Its unpainted and the "white" wooden chess pieces are a bit dirty from use-
mainly fingermark stains.
I thought of cleaning it up a little. What should I use? Warm soap and

Da Vinci Code in chess by
Zero
Hi,
I saw the movie, The Da Vinci Code, yesterday. It was an interesting
moving about a guy who does a treasure hunt by solving codes and clues
along the way. He said in the movie that symbols have different
meanings.
I was wondering if there are any secret coded messages on a chessboard.
Maybe a longtime the inventors of chess used the pieces as symbols to
meet something. They all...

Chess game improved twice Better now by
Sanny
I Wonder playing Chess with computer as now it gives twice better
moves.
Play at : http://www.softtanks.com/chessgame/Chess.html
The game now uses better technique which made it about twice better
while making moves in same time. So the Beginner level will also give a
good challenge to new players.
However those a bit better at Chess should start playing with Easy

More Brits, killed in Gulf.. by
michael adams
Gruppens,
It is my sad duty to report more Britischer troops have been killed by
the so called 'friendly-fire' in Gulf War 1 by rampaging, out of control
PC yuppie American troops than had before been thought credible. This
news has recently come to my attention & has raised my ire over the
clear wantoness of these lawless uniformed thugs. Rememeber Gulf war 2
has yet to be reported on. I'ts...

Chef-d'oeuvre in danger - The Greenwich in Brussels by

To begin a link with four pictures of this Café :

Here some exerpts of a presentation paper given to me by the owner, Nicolas
Paneritis :
« At the Greenwich Café you are judged by only one standard : how well you
play chess. That-'s why René Magritte didn't have much luck when he tried to
sell there his Surrealist paintings a few decades ago. If ...

I wrote:
I'm learning about time in chess, and I've come across an example which has

have, I don't want to continue reading the book, and I'd like to finish the
book soon. So any thoughts will be appreciated!
My book presents a game which begins thus:

Topalov! by
EZoto
Is this guy on fire or what! Now it says on chessbase that the match
between Kramnik and Topalov may be off, or tentative whatever that
means. Sounds like Kramnik is getting nervous. However for Topalov to
even consider an alternative match other than with Kramnik ( though
Anand would be an excellent substitute ) and pick Radjabov would be the
old days of chess in the 20's and 30's. Who has...
