d4 the only way to make black give up his e5? by Albert
In Reuben Fine's 'The Ideas Behind Chess Openings' page 7 he wrote: 'OPENINGS WITH 1 P-K4, P-K4 Both White's and Black's initial moves are perfectly natural and normal: both assist development and affect vital central squares. As long as Black can retain symmetry, White can lay no claim to an advantage. Consequently the task is to compel the defender to give up his strong center positions, in...

Polgar Moving Back to Hungary - Is this an April Fools Joke? by Wlodzimierz Holsztynski (Wlod)

Mitchell vs Sloan 2008 by Rob
Here is the recent loss Sloan suffered. Jerry Nash of the USCF officiated the match. It was a single game, no time limit. Mitchell drew white and began the game. Sloan defended with black. At the end of the game Nash presented Mitchell with a cashiers check in the amount of 10k. Here is the PGN Mitchell white vs

Fun Educational Games for Your Kids.(download games) by download.games08@gmail.com
http://syubrawi.com/the-download-games download games, There are many games out there for kids, including board games, video games, and computer games. It is very easy to just go out and purchase games for your kids; however, you should be taking the time to focus on how educational the games you buy will be for your children. No doubt your kids love having fun, but incorporating education with...

Murray's comprehension test by Chess One[_2_]
This is what I wrote to prosecutor Murray, and what he snipped 2 parts of 1) Look at the name of the thread - d4 the only way ... snort 2) Daft isn't it? 3) If I misrepresented Spassky's use of the KG, where? I really would rather talk the chess, not Murray's rendition of what I said which he is not brave enough to actually mention, and also cannot contest. He snipped it!

A Diabolical KID by Chess One[_2_]
I like to trace origins in the development of openings in my column, and started this one last week - noting the emergence of the opening, until Euwe squashed it flat in the 1930s - then Bondarevsky picked it up again after WWII. What to Play? When the KID was really young. Continued from last week. Moves and commentary draw on The King Hunt in Chess, W. H. Cozens. 1970.

Bobby Fischer WAS HELPING Kasparov, Korchnoi, and Topalov!!!! by Alex
Some people have found Bobby' laptop and started going through his files. They found some old e-mails he sent. It turns out he was giving advice to Korchnoi, Kasparov, and even Topalov. He came up with that Nxf7 novelty that Topalov played against Kramnik: Take a look: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=4543

Harkness or Battell? by ttk5079@gmail.com
In another thread, the question arose: who devised the rating system for postal chess used by Chess Review magazine, and later adopted by the USCF? I have long been under the impression that it was Kenneth Harkness, who was managing editor of Chess Review when the postal rating system debuted in the January 1942 issue. Harkness also later designed a different system for over-the-board chess,...

North American Chess Association by samsloan
There is a rumor bouncing around that Sevan Muradian and his North American Chess Association will be trying to take away from the USCF it's FIDE affiliation. Also, supposedly the North American Chess Association is trying to become the governing body of chess in Canada, Mexico and the USA. I can tell you that none of this will ever happen, so do not worry about it.

Fischer's email to Korchnoi!! by Radical Muslim
Date: 29 Sept 1978 02:12:07 -0700 From: Robert J Fischer To: Subject: Your match against Karpov Manila, 9/28/1978Dear Viktor, I was glad to see that you followed my advice and played the King'sIndian Attack. 10 P-KB3 against his stupid Tartakower was nice, wasn'tit, even if you lost that game. But playing 10 P-KB3 in the Open RuyLopez was going too...

Wagon-lit by Offramp
I like the French word wagon-lit; it is two opposite concepts in one. I am going on the wagon today. Gladys said I was screaming out for help last night - literally, she meant, not figuratively. I have been overdoing it lately owing to that Wetherspoon's beer festival. I have really been knocking it back. So I am hoping for a dry April!

Bob Hope vs. Bobby Fischer by Aftermath Fan
I was reading in an old Chess Life that Bob Hope had beaten Bobby Fischer in chess on TV. The context was kind of humorous - I'm guessing this wasn't a serious game. Does anyone remember the story? I discovered a game a while back in which Letterman played Kasparov (and lost - no surprise!) I don't know the context though it appeared to be a serious...

Beginner atleast 1850+ Rated acording to FICS games. by Sanny
As few people said FICS gives correct Rating. I played 3 Games at FICS against Beginner Level, To my amazement Beginner won all the three games. It beat three players of Rating 1832 and 1700 and 1500. And Now FICS rates GetClub Beginner level as 1800+ So all those who used to say Beginner plays less than 1800 Look at this game. See how Beginner Sacrificed its Knight and Won the game.

Help Bots new idea tickeled. by Sanny
Help bot suggested about the blockade strategy it helped GetClub play much stronger games now. I played two games with Beginner vs Rybka and found even Rybka is not able to get ahead and finish GetClub like it used to earlier. It is taking longer for Rybka to win against the Beginner Level. As Beginner is not allowing Rybka to take its pieces easily. The Games are ending with +10 Moves.
