There may have been a somewhat similar situation in the 1997 FIDE

Why is 5...c5 a "powerful answer?" by
mike
In the game Rubinstein - Spielmann, Semmering 1926, after 1.c4 c6 2.d4 d5
3.e3 Nf6 4.Nf3 e6 5.Nbd2, Kmoch writes that Lasker's 5...c5! is considered
best. "This is no loss of time, but a powerful answer to the delirious
development of the White Queen's Knight."
I'm afraid the "power" is somewhat lost on me. ...c5 looks like it would be
a desirable move against almost anything -- why is it so...

chess clock question by
slipkid
A friend of mine recently purchased a digital chess clock - i think it is called a DGT XL.
We want to get used to using a clock, perhaps even join a local club and start playing tournaments someday once we get good enough, but neither of us have any experience with using a clock and have found trying to figure out how to setup this clock is harder than learning to play chess in the first...

Sweetheart deal for the Shahades by
samsloan
This was a sweetheart deal to pay off Greg Shahade. A position with
this kind of salary should have been opened to the best candidate. This
is another scam from Goichberg.

So....Topalov loses. by
EZoto
The guy with the mouth loses today. He is the Bent Larsen of our
Generation. I can see Kramnik shaking in his boots. Topalov is scary
isn't he?

It has been confirmed by the board that Hoffman and Shahade would
receive at least $50K (each) a year or more. Did the delegates approve

IQ Tests to be required to run for the USCF Board? by
Sam Sloan
I have long maintained that anybody who runs for the USCF Board should
be required to take an IQ Test and anybody who cannot score at least
70 on the test should be disqualified from running.
This, I realize will disqualify so many people that few who are or
have been on the board would be or have been able to make the grade.
Still, I am revamping my old proposal.I feel that the events of...

Marinello for President by

Marinello was the best ever dyke President of the USCF. She was not
