"Chess is Cool" Podcast by
Harold Buck
Just in case anyone cares, there is a chess podcast available, put out
by Alexandra Kosteniuk:
http://www.kosteniuk.com/podcast/
or search for "Chess" in iTunes.
It's not bad, although I think it's geared mostly for beginners. Others
might like some of the more "newsy" items, though.

playchess.com Blitz versus USCF Quick Chess ratings by
Mike Murray
Apples and Oranges Department: Anybody have a feel for how the two
systems map to each other? For example, if one has a Quick Chess
rating of 2100, what might that person's playchess Blitz rating be?
I suppose the only real way to answer this is to take random samples
of rated players who are currently active in both systems and compare,
but.... Any semi-informed opinions, personal examples,...

FIDE article 2.4 says (in part) "The pieces should not be shiny... ".
Are lacquered pieces too shiny?

Contact Pafu of The Beginner's Game? by
richardfkennedy@hotmail.com
Readers may be familiar with the book "The Beginner's Game" by Pafu
which seems to come up in discussion periodically. Does anyone know how
to contact the author - the book's home page doesn't seem to have an
email address.
Thanks.

Offhand Morphy vs Paulsen games by
Jeremy Spinrad
The Albion of Oct 27, 1860 says that it is not generally known that while at the
chess congress in 1857, Paulsen and Morphy played 10 or 11 offhand games against
each other, and Morphy won all of them. This seems to be a different story than I
have from other sources (eg a summary of Morphy's results in NY given in Chess
Monthly of 1857);

That Fischer collection on eBay... by
Alan OBrien
Does anyone know what happened to the huge collection of R J Fischer
documents and books that some guy found in a car boot sale and offered for
sale on eBay? I hope it went to a good home, like the USCF of a major
library.

Who is Joshua Casey-Rosa? by
Sam Sloan
A Wikipedia page I created has just been modified by somebody else to
say that the new USCF Executive Director is Joshua Casey-Rosa.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Directors_of_the_United_States_Chess_Federation
Is this true?
A week ago I heard a rumor that Bill Hall had resigned. I dicounted it
because nobody else had heard it.

A bit confused about USCF book sales - from the USCF Forum by
Sam Sloan
Posted: Sat Feb 18, 2006 6:10 am by Sam Sloan
A bit confused about USCF book sale.
I sell books through Amazon. I get about $25 per month, although some
times when things are really good I get $30.
Still, that is a bit less than the $3,500,000 that the USCF used to
receive per year before Bill Goichberg gave away the USCF's books and
equipment business.
