Bronstein delay question by
Jud McCranie
How does the Bronstein delay differ from the Fischer delay? Is it
that the Fischer delay is added for every move, and the Bronstein
delay doesn't start counting for the delay period, but doesn't
accumulate? Something like that?

Chess books and tourament set for sale. by
montygram
This is not a store, but a liquidation of my personal collection, so
once they are gone, that's it. Most are at less than half the retail
price. There's also a tournament set and roll-up board with carrying
case (new - never used) for $14. Quantity discounts possible. Only
actual shipping charged. I can set it up on eBay if you feel more
comfortable, but I's have to tack on $1 for their...

Did a little spectating today at the U.S. Amateur Team Champ - South... in Orlando by
John J.
Since I've been hitting CT-ART pretty hard I had to restrain myself from
slapping some of the players on the head for not playing the correct
moves...
Had the opportunity to meet GM Julio Becerra. Super nice guy, much younger
than I thought he would be....a pretty good player too. :) Watched him take
apart a Master in what seemed like an even endgame.
I may need more time to study/practice...

Che, Taimanov and Evans by
Chess One
A really fascinating series of pictures is currently posted at ChessBase
from Mark Taimanov's photo album. The GM just turned 80. Apart from some
interesting pictures of Reschevsky, there is also that famous game Taimanov
:: Evans, with Che Guevara looking on. This picture is from a different
angle than the one on Taimanov's double CD. Notes accompany each picture,
and many famous chess players...

"check of the queen" - garde by
Jud McCranie
Is "check of the queen" (by "check" or "garde") ever announced
anymore? Isn't it WAY obsolete?

Draw - insufficient material to checkmate, etc by
Jud McCranie
One way a draw can result is if no series of legal moves could result
in checkmate. Usually that means insufficient material to mate, but
is it possible to have a position which has sufficient pieces, but
they are permanently blocked so no checkmate is possible?

Latest Review of Shahade book by

Half a Bitch is Better Than None:

"Much of the press controversy provoked by the title and cover is
