Why are the Hardinge-Simpole titles priced the way they are? by
Sam Sloan
Does anyone know why the Hardinge-Simpole titles are priced the way
they are? I wonder if the print runs might be very small. I ask
because when I see a book like Modern Chess Brilliancies (just one
example) for $30 I don't think you are going to sell many copies. Not
because it isn't a good book, it is, but because a ton of copies are
available on ABE books from previous printings, starting at...

Simple Program or Website for Projecting Teaching Board by
robertmee@gmail.com
Hi...
I've been recruited to help out at a local Middle School, providing
chess instruction. I'm starting to put together a list of
materials/supplies necessary, and one thought I had was a teaching
board. I know you can buy the large scroll type boards, but the
classroom has access to a computer and LCD projector, so instead of
purchasing a teaching board which takes away from our meager...

Hi,
I'm doing an introductory lecture on playing with/against the isolani. I
have a bit of material but would be interested in more (games, positions,

Anyone with something interesting to share?

Breaking News: Bobby Fischer will play a Fischer Random Match by
Sam Sloan
My reliable sources have informed me that Bobby Fischer will play a
Fischer Random match against either Kasparov, Karpov or Benko.
Benko would be the safer bet since he will lose to both Kasparov and
Karpov. Perhaps he would like to consider Bisguier.

Two Dvoretsky Books on Tactics: Same Book by
mike
I have an oldish copy of Dvoretsky's Secrets of Chess Tactics.
While at the bookstore today, I ran across a copy of his newer School of
Chess Excellence: Book 2 - Tactics.
Is there any significant difference between these two books, or is the newer
basically a rehash of the older?

More on chess variants by
MorphyFischer
I was just reading through the 14 or so remarks posted under the chess
variant topic. Many people seemed to have been throwing stones at this
poor guy. And, some of the remarks by the "chess elite" were incorrect.
Here are some facts that I believe that chess players may not be aware
of at the present time:
The Gothic Chess Federation now has just under 20,000 paying members,
about 1/3rd the...

ratings question by
KDP
hi
im slowly getting back into chess and have a question regarding the
different online servers. my question is, how does (if possible) judge
the comparative strengths of the players at different sites. for
example ive seen the starting ratings at different places range from
1000 to 1500. so in theory a 1700 player who started out at 1000 is
stronger than a 1700 player who started out at...

Rousseau - Conti by
Jeremy Spinrad
I believe that I asked about this game earlier. I found out a bit more from the
French library on-line, which has an article called Rousseau Joueur D'Echecs in
the Annals de Societe.
Apparently this game, which the author of the article clearly believes is
authentic although I do not, appeared in La Palamede 1843, pg 41-42, as part of a
fantasy of Marie Aycard called Jean-Jacques et le Prince de...

Chess Poems by

Randy, Randy, don't you know?
Larry's the biggest USCF's foe.
Randy, Randy, where have you been?
You need to save us from the buddy of Keene.
Randy, Randy, the USCF's not the same without you.
You must have missed us and we sure miss you too.

Ouchy ouch! Another blow to Larry Parr's lame argument.

Computer Chess Games For Beginner by
merlin47
I am a beginning chess player and would like to buy a chess game for my PC so that I can practice. Does anyone know of a good one? I would like one that has beginner levels, so that I won't get frustrated by trying to beat a game that is unwinnable except by an expert. Thx

A (possibly crackpot) theory on London 1851 by
John Townsend
In the earliest days of the St. George's Chess Club, it was reported in
"Bell's Life in London" (8 March 1840) that the membership included at least
six M.P.'s. However, George Walker mentions no political bias:
"It is pleasing to see whig, radical, tory, and conservative, here playing
chess indiscriminately, and pitching party for the moment to Diabolus".
Admittedly, this is eleven years...

e6 System for Black by
Lloyd Uhler
This system for Black relies on the Barcza-Larsen and Keres Indian. If White
chooses to transpose to
the Sicilian we use either the Kan or 3..b6 against the c3-Sicilian. The
Wade variation is used if
White forces a French defense.
Who used this: Leading Masters such as Larsen, Keres, Kasparov
See WEB Site: http://www.storesonline.com/site/1005399 for ECO type
variations

how to read a chess game for beginner by
Patrick Goette
Hello,
I am interested in any way to allow beginners to follow chess games. I mean
for people who don't know how does a chessboard "work"(a1 to a8 etc.) . It
could be a descriptive way for example, or anything else than 1.d2-d4 or
with figurines. Has anyone any idea to get a very simple way to follow a
chess game without a classical notation ?
In advance thank you for any suggestion !
