OCR Scan of Chess Board by Gerhard Trippen
Scan a chess diagram (jpg, gif, bmp). Use Chess Scan intelligent as 'OCR' tool. Save the position as a computer readable file (FEN, EPD, PGN, BRT, TeX, ....)! It's simple and free. http://www.fairychess.com/ChessScan.html Any comment is warmly welcomed.

New "bored" article at The Campbell Report - Mrs. Gilbert! by Spamscone@yahoo.com
I invite you to read my latest article at The Campbell Report. "It used to be said that a woman's name should show up in a newspaper only three times in her life; namely, when she is born, when she marries, and when she dies. No female chess player ever violated that rule more spectacularly than Mrs. John W. Gilbert...". http://correspondencechess.com/campbell/articles/a051107.htm Important...

Fritz9? by n_cramerSPAM@pacbell.net
My 8 year old grandson has been playing for 2 years and is pretty good. When playing the chess coach, the coach sometimes gets up and says, "Let's call it a draw." I've gotta get the kid to ask, "So, are you resigning? Or do ya wanna keep playing?" His birthday is in a couple of weeks. What's the youngest kid you know of that likes Fritz9? Or other recommendations? Thanks. -- Nick. Support...

The role of perception by Mr. Wizard
The following position was taken from the book: " Chess Skill in Man and Machine" by Peter Frey. The book was printed circa late 70's early 80's Basically, the author presents research work done by de Groot on how GM's to club players perceived this postion. In the book the best move, and the one chosen by the GM's, was Bxd5. I ran this position through Crafty and Chessmaster and both engines...

Quality book on (modern) history of chess? by nom de guerre
Could anyone recommend one, or a few, quality books on modern (20th Century) chess? Ideally a book that is a scholarly work (i.e., a proper history) and while dealing primarily with key players, events and developments in Chess may also include quite a few key games with quality annotation. Any suggestions?
